At Kinabalu International School (KIS), we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. Our extracurricular programme offers a wide range of activities designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and nurture creativity.

From technology and the arts to sports and leadership, students have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop new skills, and collaborate with peers in a fun and supportive environment.

Our enrichment activities align with our mission to nurture individuals who are Curious, Confident, Creative, Reflective, Respectful, and Collaborative.

No matter their passion, every student can find something to inspire and challenge them at KIS.

Through various, age-appropriate activities, students not only develop new skills and interest, but also practice social interaction and teamwork in fun ways.

• Students can expect to be notified about each term’s ECA programme within the first few weeks of school starting. All selections and allocations are carried out through the Clipboard website. For students joining us after the first two weeks of term, we will endeavour to offer them an activity if spaces are available.
• Primary Sessions start at 2.10pm and finish at 3pm. Secondary sessions start at 3.10pm and finish at 4pm. There are a minimum number of five students required for each ECA to run. Please note however that numbers are also limited for most of our clubs and places will be filled through the Clipboard system, which aims to fairly allocate student’s to their preferred choice of club each term.
• ECAs are predominantly free of charge, however where an external coach is conducting the ECA or specific materials are required, a fee will be charged. Full details of any charges are included in the ECA platform during the sign up process.

THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, bringing together practical experiences and life skills to equip young people for life. Since it was founded in 1956 by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh (husband to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom),     over eight million young people have participated in the Award in over 140 countries and territories.     Schools, colleges, universities, employers, social clubs, youth organisations such as the Scouts, Girl Scouts  and Girl Guides, young offenders’ institutions, religious organisations, sports clubs and more all run the Award.

KIS is proud to offer the Award to young people aged 14 to 18 as part of our Extra Curricular Programme.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

The Award is voluntary, non-competitive, enjoyable and balanced, and requires effort over time. There are three levels to the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Young people design their own Award programme, set their own goals and record their own progress. They choose a Service, Physical Recreation, Skills activity, go on an Adventurous Journey and, to achieve a Gold Award, take part in a residential project. The only person they compete against is themselves, by challenging their own beliefs about what they can achieve.
