Congratulations Sapi Sunbears who were crowned the

Congratulations Sapi Sunbears who were crowned the Secondary Sports Day Champions 2023 yesterday! The blue sky, yellow sun and red track were a perfect compliment and backdrop for the red, yellow and blue colours of our three house teams as they assembled at Likas Stadium for the highly anticipated day.
We witnessed exhilarating performances, with students demonstrating tremendous amounts of team spirit, sportspersonship and character as they battled throughout the day to see which House would emerge triumphant. The event was hugely supported by parents who were able to witness some incredible athletic feats with numerous records broken throughout the day.
Congratulations to our entire Secondary school for their efforts on the Secondary Sports Day!

Highlights from the recent Year 4 Showcase Extrava

Highlights from the recent Year 4 Showcase Extravaganza! Our brilliant experts took visitors on a journey through time as 8 groups unveiled the secrets of ancient Vikings, Mayans, Greeks, and Romans! Guests were issued 'time travel passports', which took them through a riveting exploration of ancient wonders—from the historical recipes to interesting fashion statements and spiritual beliefs of each civilisation. Our little historians enthusiastically interacted with visitors and their creativity shone through captivating displays featuring maps, fact files, models, food platter models and engaging games they've created on ipads and laptops! Well done Year 4 and our fantastic teaching teams!

Learning beyond the classroom! Geography is the study of our earth and how the people, places & earth systems all interact. This term Year 8 has been investigating various physical geographical landscapes from the limestone caves systems underground at Mulu to our rocky coastlines & in particular the features of our Sabah coast along our fringing coral reefs.
On a field trip last week, students had the opportunity to see firsthand these coastal physical environments and processes occurring as well as develop their practical primary data collection skills. After learning with @scuba_junkie how to snorkel, our students did 2 sets of systematic data collection, snorkeling at two contrasting reef locations at Sapi, counting fish, identifying species and rating the impacts which people have had on the reefs and the marine environment. After a tasty lunch and break, more Geographical methods and equipment were used to continue to test a range of hypotheses about coastal processes of erosion, transport and deposition. Well done Year 8!

More than 589kg of trash cleared off Teluk Likas!

More than 589kg of trash cleared off Teluk Likas! Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers who came down on Sunday for our collaboration with Trash Hero Kota Kinabalu ! More than 85 children, parents and teachers taking part across the morning where we cleaned up a massive amount of trash! This was a hugely successful event and Trash Hero commended all children who took part for their engagement in this important environmental issue.

#PrimaryStories Our recent Weekly Fun Challenges brought a burst of creativity as our Primary students crafted unique poppies for Remembrance Day while reflecting on things they're thankful for. This activity highlight important festivals celebrated around the world, such as American Thanksgiving, and give focus to international historical events; increasing our young students' cultural awareness and understanding of their place in the modern world. 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭! 🏺 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟑 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦-𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭! Parents joined in practical activities that the children had completed in their topic : from crafting Egyptian masks, creating acrostic poems, tomb painting using the Egyptian grid method, deciphering hieroglyphic writing to even simulating mummification with tomatoes! Dressed in fabulous Ancient Egyptian attire and masks they've made, the children gave visitors a tour of all their hard work, turning the showcase into a lively celebration of learning! Kudos to the dedicated teachers who made history come alive, and a heartfelt thank you to the parents for their support. 👏

Global Goals Day - It was wonderful to see students from Year 6 to Year 9 working together on Global Goals Day earlier this week. It was a day of collaboration, hard work and a fantastic amount of confidence as students presented their research in front of KS3, Year 6 and teachers. Well done done to all involved and an especially big congratulations to those that presented. A big shout out to our guest speaker - Shavez from 1 Stop Borneo for his presentation and igniting our Global Goals discussions!

Year 6 showed off their Biological knowledge admirably whilst observing a heart dissection with Mrs Beresford yesterday! Adding to the magic was an amazing birthday cake and 500 cupcakes courtesy of Mr. & Mrs. Gervasi and @hyattregencykinabalu . The festivities continued with fun games, all expertly choreographed by the 50th Anniversary Committee, with generous support from staff and dedicated parent volunteers. The ‘Share-A-Memory Wall’ was a hit and was filled with personal photos from the community,sharing their most loved memories from as far as 10 years ago. The gallery walk brought visitors down memory lane ,with boards displaying the evolution of the school and interesting written pieces from the 40th anniversary time capsule!

This jubilee celebration not only marked 50 years of success but also celebrated the diverse KIS family, its legacy of nurturing curious, compassionate, and aspirational global citizens, and the bright future that lies ahead. 🌍💙 Here's to 50 years of excellence and to many more milestones on the horizon! #KinabaluInternationalSchool #Next50YearsAhead #NurturingGlobalCitizens
