Dear KIS Community,

Wishing you a lovely weekend. I hope everyone is able to spend some quality time with friends and family over this long weekend.

Thank you to everyone who got involved with our KIS Earth Week. Despite not celebrating Feel Green Friday in school, the week was a great success and achieved its goals of raising awareness for our environment and some of the ways we can support a sustainable future. Congratulations to our Eco-Warriors, with Ms Gibbons and Ms McPherson very capably organising and arranging the activities, thank you.

Exam leave begins for our students in Years 11 to 13. Students have the opportunity to come to school to study, to study at home, or both. Teachers are available for support throughout this time and a letter has been sent to parents outlining and explaining this important period of time and the procedures involved. The exams, IGCSEs and A levels, can be a stressful time and your children need your support and understanding to help them revise and prepare for their exams. If you have any questions or concerns please do contact Mrs Renshaw, Mr Bromley or Ms Colbeck, and they will be happy to discuss any issues with you. On behalf of all of us at school, I wish all of our exam students the very best for all their exams.

Thursday became the last day of the week (as celebrations for Hari Raya started yesterday) and I had a very enjoyable visit to the Primary classrooms where students were completing various science projects they had been working on all week. Catapults and parachutes were flying through the air. My favourite comment I overhead from one group: “that was great, but what can we do to make it even better?”, what more could you ask for from an enjoyable learning project, well done to all the primary classes. Many of the secondary students found constructive ways to view the partial solar eclipse and there were some excellent photos of the phenomenon. Thank you to girls who helped me get a photo too, despite me trying to take a selfie in the process. The Year 13s had an extra boost of confidence at the end of their week, afterschool, they played volleyball against the staff and beat them in this final rematch of the year, well done to staff and students taking part, and on such a hot day.

This long weekend could be an opportunity to look at the back of your wardrobe to see if you have any 70s retro costumes. The KIS 50th Anniversary Gala Evening is next weekend. Tickets have sold out and the 29th of April promises to be an evening to be remembered, a one of a kind event in KIS history. Thank you to our very generous sponsors for providing some truly fantastic prizes and auction items, including the chance to win RM5000 off your child’s school fees! You can find more information here. The online auction begins on Monday and you can still buy raffle tickets, even if you are unable to attend.

Wishing you Selamat Hari Raya and Aidilfitri, maaf zahir dan batin.
