How many years have you been teaching?

I’ve been a primary school teacher for thirteen years. Before that, I was teaching English in South Korea for two years. So fifteen years in total.

Why do you teach?

There are many reasons why I teach. But essentially, I teach because it’s a job that brings me great enjoyment. I love the vibrancy and liveliness of the classroom. It’s a job where I get the privilege of becoming an important part of a child’s life for that year and that’s a responsibility that I cherish.

How would you describe the students at KIS?

The children are fantastic. There is a clear sense of friendship and helpfulness throughout the whole school which is so lovely to experience. The children in my own class are a great example of this. They love to help each other and see each other do well. It’s wonderful!

What is your favourite subject to teach and why?

I love teaching ICT lessons and integrating technology into my classroom. Sometimes, adults are a little reluctant to embrace technology but children love it! Using computers and technology in school offers children a unique way in which to learn. It also gives them the ability to express themselves creatively in ways that weren’t possible when I was at school!

How would you describe your teaching style?

I don’t know whether I can accurately describe my teaching style. It probably changes from lesson to lesson. What I would say is that I like to have a relaxed classroom where my students can feel comfortable and at ease. I also like to have a classroom where there’s noise and activity and bustle. As long as we’re learning and enjoying the journey!

How can parents best support their children in their studies?

Reading. Never stop reading with your children. It’s a wonderful way for you and your child to bond, learn and go on some epic adventures! Children adore being read to by their parents, or anyone for that matter so keep it up!

If you could meet a famous person, who would you meet and why?

Ohhh. I’ve lots! But if I had to pick one right now, it’d be Andrew Yang who I hope is going to be the next American President. He has a very different way of thinking about things. Every time I listen to him speak, I think “this guy could really change the world for the better.” His campaign’s acronym is M.A.T.H – Make America Think Harder! You should look him up. Oh, can I choose Elon Musk too?

We heard that you are a foodie!  What are your current favourite Malaysian food?

I love a Laksa! Anything with noodles and spice. The chicken triangles from the canteen are awesome too! I’d better go, I’m getting hungry…
