From the Head of Primary 22.08.2020

A big welcome back to school and an extra special welcome to our new families who have joined KIS.

It has been wonderful so see our primary children back in school and they have all done a fantastic job of settling back into school life after an extended period away. In particular, I am very proud of the way that they have been and continue to follow our SOP.

During the summer break our Ground Staff have been very busy carrying out improvements to the school grounds. We have new lighting in the walkways and classrooms have been given a fresh coat of paint. Our jewel in the crown is our brand new Early Years Centre which is now complete with major structural work and beautiful new furniture. If you haven’t already seen the improvements please do feel free to pay Early Years a visit.

As you know, on Monday the children spent the morning with their old classmates and class teacher and following feedback from the children this proved to be a very beneficial use of the first morning back. Understandably some children were a little anxious about returning to school and were reassured to be returning to a familiar environment even though it was just for the morning.

Learning for the new school year has begun at a rapid pace with children across the primary school taking part in our new Brainwave unit. The Brainwave unit is a great way to start the term, helping children to understand more about how they learn and what things they can do to improve their learning.

As some of you will have noticed, Class Dojo is up and running for the new school year. Thanks to Mrs Fletcher and a seamless rollover parents do not need new login details and will be able to access Dojo as they did last year. Mrs Fletcher has lots of exciting Dojo challenges planned and you can find details in this week’s newsletter.

Our Friday celebration assembly was very different this week as due to our SOP we are currently unable to meet as a school in the hall. Instead we connected via Zoom to celebrate the start of a new school year. In next week’s assembly we will hear from the Year 2 and Year 6 children who would like to run for House Captains. Next week children in every class will be able to vote for the new 2020/21 Sapi, Sulug and Gaya House Captains.

Next week children in every class will be able to vote for the new 2020/21 Sapi, Sulug and Gaya House Captains.

Next week we will be holding our parent information afternoons. Each class teacher will deliver a presentation outlining the year and should last for approximately 20 minutes.  Due to our SOP, one parent per family is welcome to attend. Further information can be found on your Class Dojo page.

Head of Primary

Class Dojo

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our families at the start of this new school year. Throughout Primary, we will continue to use Class Dojo to share class messages and information with you on a regular basis. All families connected from last year will still be connected to their children’s accounts for their new class this year. Families new to KIS will receive a code to link to your own child’s Dojo account, giving you access to all the Class and School stories we share. If you have any problems connecting your account, or have not received an invite to link to your child’s account, please do contact me (sbarlass@kis.edu.my) to help resolve any issues.

We will continue to share fun challenges, a monthly maths challenge and stories read by members of our KIS community throughout the year, all through Class Dojo posts. Keep your eyes peeled for details of these coming soon! Please do remember that the challenges we set on Dojo are a fun activity for students to get involved in, especially if they want something extra to do.

If you experience any difficulties with your Dojo account, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me. I look forward to sharing all the excitement and fun of our year in Primary!
