From the Head of Primary 29.08.2020

The last week has been full of communication with homework grids, medium term plans and end of year objectives sent home for your information. On top of this the weekly review has been sent out every Friday and many of you have attended the Year Group Information Afternoons. We make no apology for this overload of information as home school communication is key to everything that we do in Primary. We strongly believe that when parents and teachers regularly share information about a child and what’s happening in the classroom, it supports the learning process from all sides, setting up students for success. There will be an opportunity for you to meet with your class teacher again during the week beginning 14th September for 1:1 pastoral settling in meetings. More details to follow.

Please do continue to stay in touch with your class teacher throughout the year as the benefits of strong home school links are evident.

  • Improved academic achievement.
  • A more positive attitude toward learning.
  • A feeling of empowerment and confidence.
  • Enhanced relationships with parents, peers, and teachers.
  • Regular class attendance.

This week during our assembly it was lovely to feel the celebration vibe again as birthdays were celebrated, Star of the Week awards were presented and house points announced.  We heard from the Year 6 prospective House Captains who did a great job of presenting to the rest of the school via a Zoom video link. They spoke with passion and eloquence as to why they should be nominated and were confident in their delivery. Next week we will hear from the Year 2 candidates.  It will be a tough job for the primary students to decide who their new House Captains will be.  During assembly we also heard from Mrs Mullen who explained about the important role of the Student Council and how with their student voice they can make a difference to life in Primary. Mrs Mullen is looking for children who are good communicators, problem solvers and committed to giving up their time each week to attend the regular Student Council meeting. If your child is interested in the position please do encourage them to prepare a short speech that can be delivered to the rest of their class next week. Although we couldn’t all be together in the school hall, cries of happy Friday could be heard all over the school at the end of our assembly and we all ended the day with that Friday feeling.

Wishing you all a wonderful extended weekend.
