From the Head of Primary 21.08.2021

A huge welcome back to all students, staff and parents in primary and an extra special welcome to our new families who have recently joined KIS.

It has been wonderful to see our primary children back online, working so hard. They have all done a fantastic job of settling back into school life, even under the unusual circumstances of starting a new academic year remotely.

Learning for the new school year has begun at a rapid pace, with children across the primary school taking part in a wide range of fun and engaging lessons to start the year in their new classes. Taking a virtual tour of each year group over the week, I have seen an amazing array of work. From rainbows and models in EYFS; character descriptions in Y1; dressing up as an Egyptian in Y3 and family mottos in Y5! I am so proud of the super start everyone has made.

As some of you will have noticed, Class Dojo is up and running for the new school year. Thanks to Mrs Fletcher implementing a seamless rollover, parents do not need new login details and will be able to access Dojo as they did last year. Mrs Fletcher has lots of exciting Dojo challenges planned and you can find the details of these in this week’s newsletter.

This week, as well as our Welcome Back Assembly, we held our usual Friday Celebration Assembly, via Zoom, to celebrate the start of a new school year. Most ‘shout outs’ were, as I predicted, for all students, due to the fabulous start that has been made.

In next week’s assembly we will hear from students who would like to run for House Captains to lead their Sapi, Sulug and Gaya House Teams. Once all students have delivered their speeches, there will be an opportunity for every class to vote for the new 21/22 Sapi, Sulug and Gaya House Captains and the results will be announced in a couple of weeks.

Also next week, we will be holding our online Curriculum Information afternoons. I will deliver a whole school presentation on Monday 23rd August at 2pm. This will be an overview of the curriculum, along with information on how we assess and report on the curriculum.

Then over the course of the remainder of the week, the year group teachers will deliver a presentation outlining the year; this should last for approximately 20 minutes.

All links for these presentations will be posted on Class Dojo the day before.

I hope your children have had a successful first week back in their new classes and please do contact me at khitchen@kis.edu.my if you have any queries about online learning.

I very much look forward to leading the primary school during this academic year and supporting your children in continuing on their learning journey.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
