From the Head of Primary 19.06.2021

As we prepare to end this school year and plans are well underway for the next, Ms Hitchen your new Acting Head of Primary and I have almost completed our handover and have been busy interviewing staff for the position of Head of Key Stage Two. I am delighted to announce that Mr Mark Beresford, a new member of the primary team, will take on the position and he is very much looking forward to joining the KIS community and meeting you all. We have also been interviewing for the position of Higher Level Teaching Assistant and again, I am delighted to announce that Ms Jezreel Mangkiu, the current Year 2 TLA, has been successful in her application. Congratulations to you both and thank you to everyone who showed an interest in the positions.

As they say, when one door closes another door opens and the same can be said as we prepare to move from once academic year to the next. New class lists were sent home on Friday and next week our primary students will have the opportunity to meet their new class teacher and find out what the next academic year has in store for them. For some, change can be challenging and moving to a new group will be daunting. We recognise this and that is why after a particularly difficult year we have done our best to keep friendship groups and current classes together so that existing support networks remain in place for next year.

For parents too, the transition process can often be an anxious time especially if children are transitioning from one Key Stage to another and in particular if children are transitioning from Primary to Secondary. On Tuesday 22nd June, F2 parents are invited to a Zoom meeting with Mrs Garrick and myself at 2.00pm and at 10.30am Year 6 parents are invited to a meeting with Mrs Renshaw, Head of Secondary and Ms Colley, the new Head of Key Stage 3. We hope that these meetings will provide parents with all the information they need to support their children with the transition process. The meetings will also be an opportunity for parents to ask any questions that they might have about the new school year. Should parents in other year groups have any questions about their child’s transition please do not hesitate to contact me.

Finally, the KIS Student Newspaper Team have asked for the primary children’s messages of thanks.. These will be published in the final edition of the school newspaper and shared with the KIS community.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Joanne Smith
