From the Head of Primary 12.06.2021
This week in assembly we talked about the disappointing news that school will remain on line for the rest of the term. I shared this short video with the children https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyx_QYkCjZs and we talked about different ways of coping with change. The video shares strategies for calming down including breathing techniques and positive self-talk. We talked about feelings and control and the importance of letting go of things that are beyond our control such as how long this pandemic will last for. Instead, we should try and focus on the things that we do have control over such as our attitude, having empathy for others and doing things that we enjoy at home. We also talked about the importance of staying positive by keeping busy, chatting to family and friends either in person or online and being kind to ourselves. I know that this is sometimes easier said than done and if you or your children feel that you are struggling or just want the opportunity to talk things through our wonderful Ms Siti, our School Councillor, is always available and you can contact her at snaim@kis.edu.my. This week Ms Siti has introduced a lunchtime wellbeing chat room for primary children to join between 12.00 – 12.20 and is an opportunity for children to check in with her. Details of this can be found on each year group’s class Dojo page.
Fion and Eshaana, our Year 5 Student Council representatives talked to us about responsibility in assembly on Friday. Here is what they had to say.
F: Good morning everyone, today we are going to talk about responsibility. What are the responsibilities of a global citizen? Global citizens will feel a sense of responsibility when they help each other no matter where they are. Responsibilities are actions that people do to make their communities successful.
E: Responsibility basically means to be responsible for you and your belongings in many ways, like keeping your belongings safe and being responsible for yourself like trying to make your bed in the morning or washing your own clothes after you wear them. Responsibility also means to be responsible for your actions and the way we react to others. I also feel we should be responsible for our planet that we live on because there is only one and we all live on it together.
F: Indeed, we should be responsible for our planet, like keeping our environment clean and encouraging others to do the same. At school, we should be responsible for our role as students. For example, during both physical class and online learning, we need to attend classes regularly on time and also hand in homework assignments on time. No matter when and where we are, we should always try our very best in everything.
E: Responsibility is a very important thing in life. Without it everywhere would be very messy, dirty and lots of things in life would not exist because you need to be responsible, to not give up and try again every time you fail and that is why we should all be responsible in our everyday lives to keep the world healthy and make us happy.
F and E: Thank you for listening.
Thank you Fion and Eshaana for being such responsible Student Council representatives.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
