From the Head of Primary 05.06.2021
In assembly this week the Year 6 Student Council representatives did a great job of talking to us about resilience. This year the Student Council have spent time looking at and choosing words that describe the attributes of KIS learners. They started the process by brainstorming words that represent effective learners and came up with a very long list! As the weeks went by they then discussed each attribute with their classmates and fed back to the Student Council during their weekly meetings. Eventually with Mrs Mullan’s guidance, they narrowed down the list and came up with six key attributes that will be discussed and shared during our weekly assembly. The first attribute as presented by Si Hau and Oscar is resilience and what a great job they did in their presentation.
Oscar: Good morning everyone, I would like to ask one question to all of you. How would you describe us KIS students as global citizens? Well, I think of us as RESILIENT. Especially during these times of online learning.
Si Hau: Resilience basically means determination. We haven’t given up on online learning, and that is one way of showing determination, and, therefore, resilience.
Oscar: We have persisted through the complications of online learning. We have made so much progress recently, which proves to all of us that, no matter the hardships, we’ll bear through it together. No matter online or in real life we can make it through our difficulties. Don’t you agree?
SiHau: This is something we all have done and we should be proud of it. Not something to be ashamed or unhappy about. It just means your mentality is getting stronger and stronger. You may have been struggling for a goal, without knowing that the struggle is the goal. It is just like all the famous scientists in the world; their struggles, their theories, have made what we know of them today. Their persistence has proved to us that resilience is an important key in all of our lives.
Both of us: Thank all of you for your time.
I am sure that you would agree with Si Hau and Oscar. Our children should be very proud of themselves for their persistence, determination and resilience and whatever happens as Oscar says we will get through it together. Thank you to Mrs Mullan for leading and facilitating the Primary Student Council this year. They are a force to be reckoned with.
Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend.
