A short week but one that started with the fabulous Kaamatan celebrations.

On Monday morning, we had the pleasure of having the Flying Dusun group in school to celebrate Kaamatan with their traditional dances and blow-dart performance. As usual, their energy was high and the children really enjoyed watching the different cultural dances being presented.

Our youngest children, from EYFS to Year 2, showed all the other students up with their superb dancing skills on stage and around the whole hall, to the delight of the students, staff and parents in attendance. Our staff from across the school attempted to replicate this superb dancing, but we all feel that in comparison our dancing was nowhere near as good. It was a lovely celebration of the Kaamatan festival and the children really enjoyed taking part.

Y2 went on a trip as part of their topic on Toys.

This term, the Year 2’s topic has been ‘The Toy Maker’. Over the past few weeks, the children have been investigating, designing, making and testing their own games. They have been learning about various forces that create motion and have implemented them in their games. The trip to MyBowl was for the children to consolidate their knowledge of these motions and games in real life.

Additionally, the children were excellent as a whole year group and as the children will transition into new classes next year, they showed support, teamwork, competition and challenged each other with the various activities they took part in. We all had a fabulous day and the Year 2s came away with even more creative ideas for games they could make in the future.

The week ended with a Showcase from Year 3.

Year 3 sung their hearts out at their showcase on Friday. Beginning with a rap, which was tricky to master, then singing in a round to teach parents about the different types of rocks and, finally, a parody of Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ which was all about dinosaurs. All of this was in support of their topic, where students endeavoured to answer the question ‘What do footprints from the past tell us about life before humans?’, which focuses on the Mesozoic Era.

The year 3s then proudly showed their families the writing they are part way through, based on their book ‘Pebble in my pocket’ and the dinosaur scenes they created using water colours and a scaled silhouette of a dinosaur that they independently researched and wrote a factfile on.

Transition Week

In the next couple of weeks, we will also be thinking about transition to the next year group and/or keystage. Your child will take part in one or more transition sessions to prepare them for this move. These transition sessions are important as we need to:

  • Ensure children are happy and confident about the move
  • Promote emotional security
  • Give students an awareness of expectations
  • Give students an opportunity to ask any questions they may have
  • Prepare children for a new environment and help them to adapt.

For many children moving onto the next year group will not be an issue but for those who need a bit of extra reassurance, we hope that the transition arrangements we have planned will provide the support needed (more information to follow). To help, you can talk to your child about how they feel about the move and if they have any concerns then encourage them to speak to their class teacher and/or help them to prepare a list of questions for their transition sessions.

This week’s Trashless Class winners are Y1. Well done to them.

Check out our Stars of the Week this week as well as our House Point Certificate winners!

On Wednesday, there will be another ‘Drop off and Drop in’ Coffee Morning led by the Safeguarding Team. The last one was really successful and many of the parents commented how useful it was for them so if you are free please do come along. It will be in the Drama room at 8am.

Have a wonderful long weekend.

Take care.
