Housepoints Award

We are only 4 weeks into this school year and already we are proudly announcing the first four students who have earned their Bronze Award for 40 housepoints! Even more amazingly, these awards are presented this week to some of our youngest students in our EYFS and KS1 classes! It is so wonderful to see how well these children have settled in at the start of our new school year, despite the strange circumstances we find ourselves in. I am certain that it won’t be long until we are celebrating more names and presenting more of our individual housepoint awards to the Primary students of KIS!

Congratulations to :

F2: Victor and Harriet

Y1: Alicia and Samaira

We cannot wait until we are back in school when we can present you with your Bronze Award Certificates! Well done!!

Housepoint Totals

I never expect the Weekly Housepoint Totals to get any closer and any more exciting. Yet each week I’m amazed at how close the race always is. This week was no exception and our winning team clinched victory by another small margin of only 3 housepoints!! Well done to everyone who earned housepoints this week. You all helped in reaching a massive combined total of 1138 housepoints! What a fantastic total!

The housepoints awarded to each team was:

In 3rd place, with 353 housepoints is Sapi!

In 2nd place with 391 housepoints is Gaya!

In 1st place with 394 housepoints is Sulug!

Our congratulations go to Sulug Sharks for the second week in a row!! Who will we be celebrating as Housepoint Champions next week?

GO GAYA PANGOLINS! GO SAPI SUNBEARS!! GO SULUG SHARKS!!!

DOJO CHALLENGES

For the second week in a row, our congratulations go to the Sulug Sharks as Dojo Challenge winners! As our art competition continued this week, we saw some more amazing art work produced by a wide range of our Primary students who showed “What KIS means to me” through their beautiful drawings and artistic creations. Well done everyone who took part in any challenge last week. I can’t wait to see what KIS do with the challenges this week!

The Monthly Maths Challenge continues for another couple of weeks with the September Maths Challenge. If you want to have a go at solving the Maths Challenge for this month, you can find a challenge suitable for F1&F2, Year 1&2, Year 3&4 and Year 5&6. Good luck Maths challengers! All entries for the Monthly Maths Challenge are due by Friday 24th September 2021.

Inspired by our House Colour Day this week, our Weekly Fun Dojo Challenge is a House wordsearch. Find and download your House wordsearch file in the Google Drive folder. How many times can you find your House name, mascot name and House colour hidden in your wordsearch grid? Each word is hidden multiple times in the grids so you will need to have your eagle eyes working to spot them all! Good luck everyone!

Please share photos of your completed challenges through this Google Form link:

https://forms.gle/QavjAGHQ3ZbHTrKf8

Ms. Lisa in our Marketing Department will use some of the wonderful challenge submissions each week to celebrate and share your wonderful work through videos created for KIS social media sites. Please use the link above, complete the required information in the Google Form and upload your photos.

If you missed the challenges when they were shared on Dojo on Friday, please check out School Story on Dojo to find the link to the Weekly Dojo Challenge folder. You can also use this link https://cutt.ly/LfcFEyn to access the folder and find the details for all the challenges shared this week. If you have any questions, please do get in touch via email; sbarlass@kis.edu.my or through Class Dojo messages.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible participating with these weekly challenges, but please do remember that all challenges are optional. All entries for all challenges will be awarded with housepoints towards their House Team total, because “Team work makes the dream work!”

Happy challenging KIS!

Secondary House News

The Secondary House network has been established over the last few weeks with house events already running for students to enter.

Google Classrooms

All students have been invited to their respective House GClassroom. This will be a vital avenue of communication to students for House events and information.

Student notices

Each Monday a “Student Notices” Google Slides presentation is sent to tutors for display during registration and/or PSHE during the week. Within this is contained the details of four House Point competitions that, on Monday, will be into their third week:-

  • Physical Challenge
  • Dingbats
  • Weekly Maths Challenge
  • Quiz

House Web Site

A new innovation this year is the establishment of the House Google Site webpage. This is hosted securely under the KIS Google domain and as such can only be accessed by staff or student Google accounts (parents could view by asking their child to show them on their device).

It is intended that this is the hub for House activities and includes pages on:-

  • Student notices (students can access at any point of the day independently)
  • Overall House merit point totals
  • Individual and class merit point dashboard
  • Student Leadership Group
  • House competitions (mentioned above) entry Google Forms

Merits: These are the stamps in a students Homework Diary that Teachers award for exceptional work or contribution to the wider school community.

This may include writing articles for the student’s newsletter, producing an exceptional piece of homework, or performing in an assembly.

Once a week Tutors will update the GSheet totals during a registration period or PSHE.

These can then be ‘live viewed’ on the House GSite, Key Stage Dashboard at the students leisure.

Charts are live updated so students can view their Merit totals, compare with friends and see how close you are to your next end of Term certificate:-

  • Bronze = 40 – 79 merits
  • Silver = 80 – 119 merits
  • Gold = 120 – 159 merits
  • Principal’s Award = 160 or more merits

House Points: These are awarded to houses for competing in house competitions or events. Points can be awarded as a cumulative score or a set number of points depending on ranking (for example 50 for first place, 30 for second place, and 10 for third place).

OVERALL HOUSE CHAMPION = MERIT TOTAL + HOUSE POINT TOTAL

We look forward to some exciting competition in the coming months!!
