From the Principal 30.11.2019
Dear KIS Community,
Thank you to everyone who was able to come to the AGM on Thursday, with your support we were able to reach a quorum of members to be able to hold the meeting. I am delighted to welcome in the new Board members (as shown below) and would like to take a moment to thank our three previous Board members, Simon Enderby, Delbert Chong and Lee Hyerang for their dedication and hard work in serving the KIS school community through their time on the Board. Simon has been instrumental in many of the recent changes in the physical development of the school and I believe will continue to be an advisor to the IDC. The Board of Governors will be meeting on Monday to agree the Board’s positions and this will be communicated in due course. The KIS Board of Governors for the next year is:
1. David Powell
2. Shirley Yu
3. Angus Wong
4. Hans Dols
5. Gina Pang
6. Toto Setiawan
7. Martin Forsyth
8. Park Seon Yeong
9. Matthew Loh Shin Kiet
Earlier this week the school celebrated the Global Goals day. This was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the 17 Goals that were set by World Governments back in 2015. Our thanks to the many staff who organised a varied day of cross school talks, activities and learning opportunities. Thank you to our guest speakers throughout the day who helped to inspire our students, Dr Milena Salgado, Felicity Eku, Ruth Yap, Regrow Borneo, Zero Waste and Scuba Junkie.
Friday saw a wet start to the Primary Sports Day, you can read more about their triumphs through the PE section next week. Thank you to Mr Barker and all staff, students and parents involved in the A Level Fair, this was a great opportunity for Years 10 and 11 to gain an insight to their future options and possibilities beyond KIS. Last night KIS was host to the annual 4Fest event; an opportunity for the Sixth Form students to hone their skills of leadership as they arranged an evening, night and morning for the KS4 students to enjoy various activities. Well done to all involved.
If you have been in school on Thursday or Friday you may well have noticed our wonderful Christmas decorations around school. Many many thanks to the PTA ladies for their hard work in preparing this year’s lovely display, thank you. The PTA was also very busy yesterday in supplying food and drink throughout the Primary Sports Day.
A reminder that from January we look forward to seeing students wearing items with the new school logo (except for hats), the time has come to retire the old logo. We have available logo patches that can be sewn over or to swap the old logo and these can be purchased in the school shop.
Don’t forget to save next Saturday for our annual Christmas Fair and over the next two weeks you can see our Primary Christmas Choir perform in the evening at Le Meridien on December 3rd and the Hyatt on December 11th. They will also be performing at the Christmas Fair next Saturday. There might still be time to get into the Christmas spirit by ordering the Christmas lunch for December 6th (check the PTASC section) and there are also some available spaces left for the KIS Winter Camp, see Ms Lisa for details.
Finally, our popular Christmas Angels is back and these can be collected from the Student Council before and after school. Presents can be handed into the school office for the Student Council to distribute later.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Ian Gross
