From the Principal, 30.03.19

Dear KIS Community,

It might be a Saturday, but you still need to come to school. All of you. Today is our KIS Family Fun Day; open WhatsApp and pass the message on. Lots of games, barbeque, bouncy castle, PTA drinks and ice-cream and so much more (including a magician). Come to school from 10am to 1pm. A chance for our community to get together and socialise. In advance, I would like to sincerely thank our student councils, Ms Dobson, Ms Westaway and Mrs Rose for organising the day.

Another shameless plug for next week: we will be hosting a Book Fair in the MPR. From Monday to Thursday you will be able to browse and purchase books at drop off and pick up. Students will have the chance to visit during the day and at break times.

A reminder for our Healthy Heart Canteen, from next week for walk in customers there will be a RM 1.00 charge for single use plastic containers. Bring in your own containers and get cheaper food. Help us to help our environment. This does not affect pre-order meals.

Earlier this week I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Year 2 and seeing what they had been learning through their topic of space exploration. It was lovely to see all their costumes and how engaged they were in their learning. I can make similar comments for Year 5 who recently showcased their work on Ancient China through a lively assembly and living museum exhibit on Thursday. Again, it is wonderful to see the progress our children are making and just as important, the enjoyment they have through their learning activities. This week also saw another MUN trip take off, this time to Bangkok, good luck to all the students involved and our thanks to Mr O’Kane and Ms Corbishley for organising and supporting.

For staff news, we say goodbye and good luck to Ms. Gillingan this week as she prepares to get married and head off to new a life in Australia. Whilst she will be missed, her great work will be continued by our very own Ms. Florinah who will join the Individual Needs department. To replace her in KS1, we are pleased to welcome to KIS Ms. Esther, who joins us on Monday to become our newest Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA).

I am looking forward to next week and our KS1 production on Tuesday morning. The children (and staff) have been working ever so hard and I encourage you to come along and enjoy the show. Also next week are the Sports’ Awards, make sure you read the PE news to find out more (you can also read about the Girls Football Match against St Frances that happened this week).

Looking a bit further forward, into the new term, we will be continuing our swimming programme for Primary and Secondary. Further and more detailed information about the lessons will be sent by our PE department. I appreciate some parents may find this too soon and I would like to reassure you of our full review of procedures and maintaining the high standards of care you have come to expect from us. If you have any concerns please feel free to come and talk with us.

A quick reminder for all driving members of our community. At the end of our road, past the primary school, as you join the main road you can only turn left. Members of our community have been seen trying to turn right. I can understand your frustration in not wanting to u-turn at the roundabout, but please, don’t put yourself or others at risk by trying to make a right turn. It also adds to the traffic frustration felt by all. Please turn left only.

Finally, another reminder, to come and join us at school today between 10am and 1pm for our Family Fun Day and make sure you also take part in the community mural painting.
