From the Head of Primary, 30.03.2019

It has been a busy week in Primary this week.

Key Stage One have been working hard during their final rehearsals for Peter Pan next week. It has been lovely listening to the songs being sung as I have walked around school. Moving to the other end of Primary, Year 6 have been found huddled together in corners around school frantically learning audition pieces ready for the auditions for Olivia next week.

I would also like to thank all the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to come in to school this week for the Primary Parent – Teacher meetings. These times are an excellent opportunity for you to sit and discuss your child’s progress with their teachers and find out what the next steps are in their learning journey. If you were unable to attend, and would like to speak to your child’s class teacher, please do contact them to arrange a suitable time.

YEAR 2 ROCKET DAY

As well as being busy preparing for their production, Year 2 also had a special day on Wednesday. they all came to school dressed as astronauts, aliens or something else space themed. The children had a fun packed day designing and making big space rockets with our resident engineer Mr CJ, and then putting their ideas into practice by making their own rockets. In the afternoon the children enjoyed a feast of space-themed cupcakes, alien eye ball jellies and other yummy treats! I would like to say a huge thank you to all parents who worked hard to create the costumes and send in food to help make the day as memorable as possible for the students. I would also like to thank the Year 2 teaching team for all their effort and hard work to make the day special.

YEAR 5 ANCIENT CHINA DAY

On Thursday I had the very special treat of going to the Year 5 Ancient China Day. The day started off with an assembly to parents and Year 6 where we heard all bout the different facts that the children have discovered as well as being treated to the re-enactment of the traditional Chinese story The Water Dragon. I was amazed by the retelling and the amount of expression used by some of the year group. There were one or two of the performers there who I can imagine in the future could be found on stage either in London’s West End or New York’s Broadway!

After the assembly was over parents were then led around the living museum that Year Five have been working on, they had the chance to look at KIS’s version of the terracotta soldiers, see multiple Great Walls (I am sure if we had laid them all out end to end, they would have rivaled the real Great Wall of China in length) and also listen to multi-media presentations that the children have completed using the app HP reveal and PowerPoint.

TERM THREE TOPIC TALK

I have had a few parents approach me to ask about Internet safety and what we as parents can do to help support our children when they are online. With this in mind, I would like to invite all existing primary parents to our Term Three Topic Talk on Monday 29th April from 12.30pm in the MPR. I will be giving parents an overview of how we support your children with online internet safety as well as introducing you to our Primary ICT Acceptable Use Policy. Then as always with our Term 3 Topic Talks there will then be an open afternoon for parents to look around the primary department. I hope that we will see as many parents as possible at this topic talk.
