Dear KIS Community,

Two weeks have gone by very quickly and walking around the school it is excellent to see routines back in place and students engaged in their learning. Learning spaces are busy with communication, critical thinking and enquiry. After the past few years, this promises to be a far more interactive and collaborative year ahead.

Students across the school in Primary and Secondary are getting involved with leadership opportunities: school council, prefects, house leaders, eco-school, library cadets and more. It is reassuring to see so many students aspiring to take on these roles and support their peers and the school.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of joining the first meetings of the Year with the PTASC and the Board of Governors. Remember, all parents are automatically members of the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and the Steering Committee (PTASC) organises the various events and fund raising throughout the year. The Board of Governors are parent volunteers who support the school monthly through meetings, guidance and development of ongoing strategic plans. If you are interested in joining the Board of Governors, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place in November, you can register your interest with myself, Ms Elis Ho (Office Manager) or Mrs Shirley Wu (Chair of the Board). We will also be setting up a 50th Anniversary Committee very soon and I very much look forward to working with all groups of volunteers.

As part of the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) we have updated and published our policies on the school website. Yesterday all parents were sent a google request to show their understanding for this policy. Could you please check your email and complete the google form to indicate your recognition.

Next week we will be publishing the results of the community survey that many of you were able to complete and we will also be publishing our new Covid-19 Guidance which will replace our current Post MCO Safety Policy. These will be sent by email, please check you have updated us with your current contact details.

In staffing news this week, two of our staff, Ms Guo Jing (Mandarin) and Mr Latimer (Mathematics), are currently outside of Malaysia and have been teaching online. We look forward to them re-joining us physically very soon and in due course.

Remember next Wednesday is Malaysia’s National Day and school will be closed.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ian Gross
