From the Principal 27.05.2023
Saturday 27th May
Dear KIS Community,
A few months ago we reported on our under 15s Basketball teams in a local competition. Despite playing hard and having great character both teams had not been as successful as they had wished. Well, time has gone by, training sessions have taken place, and wow, what a transformation we have seen this past week! For the boys’ and girls’ teams, only one game has been lost in the past six and they have been playing superbly. That same KIS spirit is still there, with the addition of improved teamwork, skills, and match wisdom. The support for each other, from friends, staff, and family is wonderful to see. The competition continues over the next week and we can be proud of both our teams as they go from strength to strength.
Another ‘strong’ point this week has been the PTA AGM. Thank you to all of our parents and teachers who were able to attend, we had a great turn-out and the meeting went very well under the guidance of the PTASC Chair, Mrs Nicole Gervasi. This is her last year on the PTASC as she steps down, along with many of the other members, as they make way for the new incoming committee, who will be electing new officials before the end of this year. I would like to take this opportunity to whole-heartedly thank the members of the Steering Committee for their unwavering dedication and time to support our community for literally every week (think of who sells you all the ice-creams). This past year has seen a return to a more ‘normal’ school year, with all the events that come with it. The PTASC have made sure these have been as enjoyable as possible for all of our community. On behalf of everyone, I extend our best wishes and thanks for all for their hard work, perseverance and commitment. In particular, a huge thank you to Nicole for chairing the committee over the past couple of years and ensuring our events could continue and be so entertaining for us all. I wish the new incoming committee the very best and look forward to hearing of their successes too.
Coming up this weekend is the 50th Anniversary Fun Run, check your emails for further details, if needed, you can also join in virtually (for another couple of months) and details of how are also on the letter that was sent by email last week.
After the weekend, on Monday morning, we will be celebrating Harvest Festival, Kaamatan, and this year we will be in the school hall, due to the current heatwave restrictions. This does mean space will be tight. Parents are most welcome to come and watch and we welcome everyone to come and dress for the occasion. Due to the continued heatwave restrictions we will need to cancel some events and trips, including the re-introduction of swimming lessons and our Summer Fair this year. We do have many other events taking place and the end of the school year is still full of great experiences. Further details will be published in due course.
Finally, in staffing news, we are sad to see Mr Amrey Bin Marsidi leaving us. After five and a half years he has decided to have a change in direction for his career and will be starting a new role as a private driver. We wish him all the very best in his new role.
Wishing you a lovely weekend, I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday, bright and early.
