From the Principal 25.04.2020
Dear KIS Community,
Welcome back and I trust the first week of the new term has gone well for you; I have enjoyed reading about your online learning experiences and appreciate the many positive comments. A huge thank you to all of our teachers and assistants for maintaining the momentum and keeping the high standards of education you would expect from us. I have very much enjoyed seeing their videos as I am sure you and your children have too. Thank you also to our admin and support staff who have been busy keeping the school running in the virtual background.
A huge thank you on behalf of all the KIS staff for the messages, pictures and videos sent by you all for staff appreciation day earlier this week. If you haven’t seen it yet there is a lovely video on the KIS Facebook page with a collection of messages. Thank you all and well done to our PTASC.
We are currently supporting the fantastic efforts of one of our students, Celine Hiew, in her campaign to support front line workers here in Kota Kinabalu by helping them to enjoy a well-deserved break each day with a nice cup of coffee and some lovely music played by Celine herself. “Kabalevsky and Coffee with Celine”. You can find more details of how you can support our front liners on our KIS Facebook page and through our website (https://www.kis.edu.my/kabelevskyandcoffee/).
The Board of Governors are meeting next week and we continue to assess the current situation and make solid plans for our future. We will be finalising our plans for reopening the school grounds and how this might look for when students and staff are back in school. This will then be published in due course so that we can all be familiar with the new normal and how we will operate post MCO.
I have sent a letter to all of our community detailing the current MCO and Ministry guidance and how this impacts all of us. I have also detailed the school calendar holidays to help you prepare for working at home and the challenges this brings for all of us.
As we all do, I look forward to the restrictions of the MCO coming to an end as soon as possible. We will keep you up to date and informed if there is any news or change to the current situation. Do check your emails on a regular basis. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy. If you do have any concerns that we can help with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, the office staff and myself, can be reached through our usual emails. Our school counsellor, Ms Siti, is available for all members of our community; Ms Siti can be contacted at snaim@kis.edu.my.
I wish you all a restful weekend and Ramadan Kareem,
Ian Gross
