Dear KIS Community,

Another week goes by and I am truly grateful to all of our students, staff and parents for all the wonderful learning and support that continues during this current MCO. It has not been easy for everyone and I appreciate the many difficulties faced as time goes by. The recent news of the changes to the MCO from the government gives us light at the end of a very long tunnel. We are busy preparing for when the school is able to welcome staff and the students back through the gate and making plans for the new academic year.

Protocols have been prepared for when we are allowed back in school and these will be sent to all parents early next week. This will give you time to understand the measures we are taking to protect the wellbeing of our community. Signage will be available around school to remind everyone about expectations. We understand this is a fast-changing period and we will update our policies as guided by best practice and advice from the Ministry of Health and Education as required.

The PTA AGM is scheduled for 4th June, due to social restrictions we will be holding a virtual AGM meeting to allow all parents and teachers to be able to attend. Further details will be sent shortly from the PTA and if any parents would like to be a part of the Steering Committee for the new academic year they can contact Liz Wu, Chair of the PTASC (pta@kis.edu.my).

It can be difficult to explain what we are going through globally, especially to young children and a couple of parents have forwarded an excellent children’s book that does this very well. You can access the book online for free through this link or download a PDF copy here

As you may remember, we are currently supporting the fantastic efforts of one of our students, Celine Hiew, in her campaign to support front line workers here in Kota Kinabalu by helping them to enjoy a well-deserved break each day with a nice cup of coffee and some lovely music played by Celine herself. “Kabalevsky and Coffee with Celine”. You can find more details of how you can support our front liners on our KIS Facebook page and through our website (https://www.kis.edu.my/kabelevskyandcoffee/).

I look forward to remaining restrictions of the MCO coming to an end as soon as possible. We will keep you up to date and informed if there is any news or change to the current situation regarding school. Do check your emails on a regular basis. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy. If you do have any concerns that we can help with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, the office staff and myself, can be reached through our usual emails. Ms Siti, our counsellor, is also available at any time for all members of our community (snaim@kis.edu.my).

I wish you all a restful weekend,

Ian Gross
