From the Principal 18.03.2023
Dear KIS Community,
Today you need to (in any order) read the newsletter, have some breakfast, wash and dress. Then, remember to come down to school between 10am and 1pm and enjoy a few wonderful hours with others for our annual Family Fun Day. So much hard work goes into preparations for our community events and I do want to pass on my thanks to all the staff, parents and students involved with today’s events, in particular Ms Mangkiu, Mrs Clifford and our wonderful student council members. Come along and thank them yourselves too.
As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, we have so much happening in school as we come towards the end of this term, and I really do want to emphasise that these activities and opportunities would not be possible without the dedication of our staff, interest from our students, and the support of our parents. KIS has community at its heart and together our community makes KIS the unique and successful school it has become.
Currently I am meeting with close to 100 other schools from across the Asian region at the annual FOBISIA leadership conference. An opportunity to hear what other schools are doing and how they approach the challenges of international education in a rapidly changing world. Not only is the conference a great opportunity for new ideas but it is also very reassuring to know that what we do here in KIS, is replicated in many of the international schools across the region. Many of the Heads and Principals know of Kinabalu International School and speak fondly of their connections, and memories of their interactions with our staff and students through the many events we have been involved with. It’s worth remembering we were one of the founding six schools that created FOBISIA over thirty years ago.
In some final news, we have the opportunity to congratulate another Year 13 student on the completion of their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, well done and congratulations Angelina, a great achievement. Next week is the last week of this second term and we also see the start of Ramadan and I wish everyone Ramadan Kareem. Please keep an eye on your emails and WhatsApp messages for further details for events next week. Remember also that Friday will be a half day as usual.
