Dear KIS Community,

A week with our students has been wonderful, hearing all the usual noises of a school filled with children has been exactly what we have needed. After a slightly hesitant start to the week, children have been getting back in to their usual routines and making school their second home again. Welcome back to you all. I am sure parents have been happy to get their homes back as well.

It feels strange welcoming everyone back knowing that in a couple of weeks we will be wishing you all happy holidays. It is a packed couple of weeks. Exams for Sixth form, reports across Primary and Secondary, Duke of Edinburgh, School Photos, Drama performances and of course, our CIS reaccreditation, to name just a few.

Our visitors for CIS will be joining us in the virtual world from next Sunday 21st and will be in school throughout the following week. Our schedule is busy with meetings, tours and a vast number of lesson observations. The visitors will be meeting students, staff and parents as they work through our self-study reports and match evidence, questions, and reality.

Our community has worked hard to prepare for this visit and we must not forget the underlying purpose is not just about reaccreditation, it is about self-reflection, celebrating what we do well and recognising where we need to improve. Having six fresh pairs of eyes look at who we are and what we do is an excellent opportunity to develop and grow.

CIS is not the only international organization we work with, KIS is a founding member of FOBISIA and yesterday I took part in the annual FOBISIA Heads Business Meeting, the second virtual meeting since last year’s was cancelled due to the pandemic. It was a great opportunity to meet with the other 80 or so Principals from British International Schools around Asia. Many of who who are facing the same difficulties during this global pandemic. It has been good to connect and see how we are all facing these challenges, together, with our students, staff and parents. The priority for all schools has been the wellbeing for the members of their respective communities.

Please note, our play park (where the Pirate Ship is) remains closed after school to ensure less crowding and encourage parents to leave once their child is collected. It is used and cleaned regularly during the school day. We hope to re-open this area after school soon after the Easter holidays, but in the meantime please support us in keeping our community safe. You can also help by making sure you are physically distanced and wearing a mask when you wait for your children if you are in school.

Finally, please remember school photos are next week, make sure children are in the correct uniform (no old logos anymore).

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Ian Gross
