From the Principal 19.06.2021
Dear KIS Community,
A mighty congratulations to our Year 13 students on their graduation from school! Thank you to Mr Hallas for arranging an excellent virtual graduation ceremony. We were able to celebrate our Year 13 students’ achievements, which for some students stretched all the way back to their Early Years here at KIS. We were also joined by Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh, JP, who was a student at KIS from 1982 to 1989 (I wonder if he still remembers Elis and Jumat). Whilst not in person, the virtual event last night was very special indeed with musical talents from our very own Roshween Riar and Grace Lee (and one surprise student artist). On behalf of all of us at KIS we wish our graduating students all the very best and continued success in what they do. We are so proud of you and will miss you all.
One of our younger students has also been making headlines and a bit of a splash (pardon the pun) in the world of diving. Julia Aveline-Rabenjoro (Year 8) has a Facebook page called ‘Seed of Hope’ and has the aim to bring attention to her followers for conservation and environmental issues, especially those related to ocean conservation. As a result of her work, she came to the attention of PADI (the biggest scuba diving professional organisation) and was asked to be one of only six women in the World to feature on their promotional video for the PADI Women’s Dive Day event on 17th July. Extremely well done to Julia, you can watch the video here.
There have been a number of letters sent by email recently, please do check your inbox (and also your junk mail) to make sure you are not missing out on essential information. One of these would have been from the PTA and you can read about the new steering committee (PTASC) for 2021-22 in the PTA section of this newsletter.
Finally, I would like to correct my introduction last week and warmly welcome Dr Balvinder Kaur Kler as a new member to the KIS Board of Governors.
I wish you all a safe and relaxing weekend,
Ian Gross
