Saturday 8th October

Dear KIS Community,

This past week has been a great success for mental health with our KIS Care Week. I believe many of you could see and hear the mornings with Wake Up & Shake Up, a fantastic way to start the day along with many wonderful events taking place at break and lunch times. Our appreciation to Datin Siti and all the staff involved to support our students’ mental health. Also in the past week, Ms Colley led a very successful Global Goals Day for KS3 and Year 6, thank you to parents, staff and community members that helped support this great day, you can read more about the event in the secondary section.

Today KIS is hosting a basketball tournament with some of our local schools competing against our own KIS FOBISIA teams. Not only is this a great community opportunity but also ensures our young athletes experience competition with unknown competitors, something we have not really been able to do since before Covid. If you want to come along and cheer for the KIS teams, please do from 8.30am onwards to the early afternoon.

We now go into a long weekend where we can all re-charge our batteries, before the final week of this first half term. It’s a short week but it is certainly going to be a busy one. Secondary Sports’ Day takes place on Wednesday and the whole secondary school will be at Penampang Stadium for the Day, parents are welcome to attend and support the three houses. Parents can buy drinks from the PTA but please bring your own cup (otherwise there will be an extra cost).

On Friday (not Thursday), the much awaited and anticipated, International Day returns to the school campus. A huge thank you to the organising committee, led by Nicole Gervasi, and have ensured a day to remember. My office is full of delicious hampers from around the world for the silent auction, and also a large number of very sort-after prizes for the raffle from the top brand hotels and centres in and around Kota Kinabalu. I’ve definitely bought my vouchers, have you? There is still a chance to buy the vouchers next week (except Monday & Wednesday). You will also need the vouchers if you want to try the wonderful food that will be on offer from the parents’ international stalls, competition is getting fierce to see who will be crowned with the best stall. We also look forward to seeing you all at the Parade of Nations on the Friday morning.

Do check your emails, there has been a lot of information about these events sent to you recently. School will finish at 2pm on Friday so that we have time to appreciate the day, stalls and games being organised by the Student Councils and there is an expectation that parents do not leave with students before this time, besides, the lucky draw happens just before the end of the day and you really need to be there to hear your number being called. You don’t want to miss out on these great prizes. Thank you to our generous sponsors for your donations and making the day extra special for everyone.

I wish you a lovely long weekend,

Ian Gross
