From the Principal 07.03.2020
Dear KIS Community,
This past week has seen a flurry of activity with our younger students. Year 1 in Kiulu Valley, Year 2 on Bukit Padang and Year 3 spending a night in Suook Maang. These experiences are fantastic opportunities for learning to go beyond the classroom and away from school. Independence, problem solving, risk assessment and communication are just a few of the wider curriculum skills that can be addressed through these opportunities.
Next week, Year 5 have their chance to get away from school with the annual trip to Kuching. Our older students are also having opportunities to break away from school through recent Geography trips and the forthcoming Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. Our thanks to all of our staff who are supporting the trips and helping to make the wider curriculum so strong.
If you have an opinion about the trips or even the curriculum at KIS why not share it with us through the CIS online community survey. CIS, the Council of International Schools, use this very same survey with all of its member schools when going through accreditation or re-accreditation. It is an excellent tool for us to use to support our own development as we analyse all responses from you as parents, our staff, our Board members, our students and our alumni. Please check your emails from school to see the link to the survey, we really want to hear your opinions.
Today the Board of Governors and the Extended School Leadership Team are meeting at school to develop our strategic planning for the next five years. Vision 25 will help keep us on track as we move forward and ensure the continued and improved quality of education and resources we provide, and that you would expect, at KIS. Your responses to the CIS survey will also help us focus our efforts on self-improvement as we move through the next five years.
I wish you all a lovely weekend and for Sunday, a happy International Women’s Day.
