From the Principal 04.05.19
Dear KIS Community,
Well done to the cast and crew in Romeo & Juliet for such a wonderful adaptation. The students were (and looked) fantastic. So many hours, 92 apparently, were spent rehearsing and preparing and that’s just the time spent in school. I imagine many more were spent at home practising lines, worrying about entrances and exits, discussing ideas and stage directions.
Our thanks to Mr Bryant, Ms Colley, Ms Raywena for their dedication from the outset. They were also ably supported along the way by Mr Darwin, Ms Marriott, Mr Walker and a whole host of others (not forgetting Sofie and Betty for the wonderful costumes). Thank you to everyone who was involved, the evening performances were a real treasure to behold.
Exams and study leave have begun for our senior students but please remember students on study leave are welcome and encouraged to attend school as meet with their teachers to get support before their exams. Please check parent letters for further details. For other students, the learning experiences continue, in Secondary many students are currently on their Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Trips in Years 5 and 6 supported their learning at the end of the week and this morning Mrs Russell will be wishing bon voyage to our Primary FOBISIA team as they head off to Phuket, Thailand. Good luck to all of the primary team and enjoy the sporting competition, we wish you all well.
Today the Board of Governors and the School Leadership Team are having a day together to discuss amongst many things, the CIS re-accreditation progress, the schools’ development plan, the role of international schools and the future long term development of KIS. These days are an excellent opportunity for leadership and governance to work together and support the ongoing goals of the school to ensure we meet the needs of our community.
It has been brought to our attention recently that many of our students have various social media accounts, whilst there is nothing unusual in this, you as parents should be aware of what media your children are accessing. It has been noticed that many of these accounts are public, meaning anyone, anywhere in the world can access, view and copy all the information and media these accounts have. Please check your children’s account settings to help make their lives more private. If your child is taking pictures of their friends, are they aware these pictures may also be public, some people may not want their photos shared with the community or with strangers.
Finally, this weekend we see the start of Ramadan and provision is available at school for students who are fasting. Quiet rooms are available during the breaks and lunch for fasting students and the PE department will not be expecting fasting students to over exert themselves. If you have any questions or concerns please do speak to the Heads of School, Mrs Russell and Mrs Renshaw.
I wish you all a restful weekend and Ramadan Kareem,
Ian Gross
