From the Head of Primary 04.05.19
Thank you ever so much to those of you who were able to attend this term’s topic talk and open afternoon earlier this week. During the Topic Talk I was able to explain to parents about the ICT Acceptable Use Policy that was sent home with your children on Tuesday. If you have not already had chance to talk about this with your child, please do so over the weekend and return the signed form to school on Monday.
Year 6 had a fun, but long, day on Thursday. They were in school at 6.45am ready to set off to Sabah Tea Gardens to walk part of the Sandakan Death March route with world famous expert Lynette Silver and her team of guides. This trip was the much anticipated end to their studies from Term 2 on WW2 in South East Asia. The students and staff were very fortunate to have the opportunity to walk with Ms Silver and her team as she is only in Sabah for a very short time at the moment. The group were able to hear more stories of the Death March on their journey to Ranau and while walking they were able to gain a better understanding of the type of vegetation and conditions the soldiers endured under the rule of the Japanese.
On Friday Year 5 had the opportunity to have a behind the scenes tour of the Shangri-la Tanjung Aru (STAR) Hotel. They spent the day learning about how the resort endeavours to be as eco-friendly as possible. The students were able to interview some of the people that they met and get a very good understanding of how a resort such as STAR opperates and works to leave as small a carbon foot-print as possible. I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff of STAR for once again allowing our students to visit your resort.
Primary FOBISIA
This morning, a group of 26 of our Year 5 and 6 students will be travelling to Phuket with Ms Watt, Ms Westaway, Mrs Colbeck and Mr Green to compete in the Primary FOBISIA Games. The students will be battling hard to do their best in swimming, athletics, T-ball and football before returning to KK on Wednesday. I am sure you will all join with me to wish the team good luck!
Ramadan
As you are all aware, Ramadan starts this weekend. Thank you to those parents who have already informed me of their child’s fasting. If you have not informed me yet, please can you send me an email as soon as possible so that I can make the necessary arrangements to ensure your child is properly supervised during break and lunch times. Thank you.
Dental Screening
The deadline for submitting your dental screening forms was yesterday 3rd May. However, if you would still like to submit a form, please do so by 10am on Monday.
