From the Head of Primary 27.08.2022
Well what a busy week it has been in primary! The students have fully settled into their routines and are excited about all the learning that is happening in their classrooms.
The last week has been full of communication with Curriculum Information Statements and Medium Term Plans sent home for your information, as well as our Curriculum Information Presentations that have been happening all week. I hope these gave you an insight into our curriculum at KIS. We strongly believe that when parents and teachers regularly share information about a child and what is happening in the classroom, it supports the learning process from all sides, setting up students for success.

There will be an opportunity for you to meet with your class teacher again during the week beginning 26th September for the first of our Primary Learning Conferences this year. As I explained in the meeting on Monday, we would like students from Y2 upwards to be more involved in these meetings in order to enhance their learning experience. They will share with you work they are proud of and discuss areas they feel they need to improve on. Asking students to self-assess and self-reflect is a powerful way to enhance a student’s learning experience. It plays an important role in teaching students not just what to learn, but also how they learn and what they can do to improve their learning outcomes. Students who critically reflect on their work, processes and learning style; are given an opportunity to identify gaps in their knowledge or skill set and achieve greater autonomy and deeper learning and metacognition.
Please continue to stay in touch with your class teacher throughout the year as strong home school links are extremely important.
This week during our weekly Friday assembly, it was lovely to feel the celebration vibe again as birthdays were celebrated, Stars of the Week were given and house points announced. Take a look at our Stars of the Week.

Also, we heard from the Year 6 prospective House Captains who did a great job of presenting to the rest of the school.
The House Captain Candidates are:
Gaya: Blossom, Justin, Kayla, Mabel, Naollin
Sapi: Ashlyn, Devon, Hei Ket
Sulug: Adithya, Charlotte, Chency, Jin Wei, Rafael, Serene
They spoke with passion and eloquence as to why they should be nominated and were confident in their delivery. Next week we will hear from the Year 2 candidates. It will be a tough job for the primary students to decide who their new House Captains will be. I look forward to finding out very soon!
See below for a video compilation of snippets from their speeches!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a Happy Malaysia Day for Wednesday!
Take care.
