What a busy first week back to school!
It was lovely to see so many people at Primary Sports Day on Tuesday. In all the years of attending Sport's Days at KIS, I have never known such a closely contested event as we had this year. I think with every points update, there was a different house in the lead. But in the end, Sulug was victorious and able to just take the lead by a few points from Sapi. Congratulations to everyone in Sulug. Also a huge thank you to our PE department for all their time and hard work preparing the children for their races last term and organising the event.
Thursday saw Year 2 out of school for the day. they were very lucky to be able to go to the Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort for the day to undertake activities in their nature reserve. After a long hot day, the children were very tired but full of exciting stories of their adventures.
This week has also see the start of our Progress Tests. Over the next month all the students from Year 2 through to Year 6 will be sitting online assessments in English and Maths, as well as Year 6 also sitting a Science Assessment. Please can you ensure that your child is in school every day unless they are seriously ill. Children perform better in the assessments if they take them with their classmates rather than working by themselves at a later date.
Topic Talks and Open Afternoon
Next Monday sees the final Topic Talk for the year in Primary. As I said last term, this topic talk will be focusing on e-safety and online issues that are facing your children at this time. I will also be talking through our new Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) that is being implemented this term. After this talk, it will be a chance for existing parents to look around Primary to get a better understanding of the British Curriculum at work. Please can I remind you that this will be a normal working afternoon for our students. I do request that if you have young children who are not in school, that they are not taken to the open afternoon as they may disturb the learning going on.
Ramadan
With Ramadan starting next weekend, I would like to start planning the supervision of our fasting students. Please can you let me know by email (
nickyrussell@kis.edu.my) or talking to either Sharon or Melissa in the school office, if your child will be fasting.
If your child is fasting this year, they will not be expected to participate in PE lessons. Please ensure that your child has their library book or home reader in school that day, so that they can sit quietly and read. If your child's class is swimming, then please can you keep them at home until 10am that day.
Dental Screening
Earlier in the week, letters were sent home explaining about a free Dental Screening service that will be offered in school for all Primary students in May. If you would like your child to participate in this, please do not forget to fill in the slip attached to the letter. Without this slip, we cannot permit your child to undertake the screening.
