From the Head of Primary 31.08.19
It has been a very busy and exciting first full week back at school as we embark on our learning journey together. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new students and their families who joined us this week.

It has been lovely to spend time in so many different classrooms this week. The children have already settled into the new term and are enjoying their learning. There is certainly a buzz of excitement in the air as we all look forward to the term ahead.
At the beginning of the week I attended my first PTA meeting at KIS and I was once again overwhelmed by the warm welcome. All new members of staff received a welcome hamper from the PTA during our first week and it is personal touches like this that have made us all feel so at home and lucky to be here. The work of the PTA is invaluable to the school and I look forward to working closely with them over the coming year.
On Friday during our KS1 and KS2 assemblies, prospective House Captains were given the opportunity to speak in front of their peers and explain why they should be nominated to represent either Sapi, Sulug or Gaya. Each child did a brilliant job and it will now be left to the children to decide who they would like to represent each house. This year we have decided to nominate House Captains in Year 2 and Year 6 so that we have representatives in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Nominations are also under way for the Student Council. Children from each class are able to nominate themselves and their fellow classmates will nominate one representative from each class. House Captains and Student Council members will be announced in next week’s assembly.
On Tuesday our first Topic Talks will be presented to you. I strongly encourage you to attend as there will be lots of information about a number of different topics that will be very useful to you. Children will be able to wait for you in the MPR room and will be supervised by our wonderful TLAs. Topic Talks will continue all week and more information can be found on Class Dojo.
Please remember to sign up to Class Dojo if you haven’t already. Every week you will receive a weekly review from your year group teachers as well as notices and other important information. Dojo will be the main channel of communication between teachers and parents this year and it provides you with a great opportunity to find out about what your children have been up to. At the moment Year 3 are leading the way with 95% of parents having signed up! Go Year 3! Will they still lead the way next week?
A few parents have asked me this week if their children can play on the climbing area after school while they wait for older siblings. This is absolutely fine but please be aware that once you have collected your children from the class teacher at the end of the day you are responsible for supervising your children and keeping them safe.
Finally, thank you so much for your patience this week as we screen the children for HFMD. We believe that it is best to take precautionary measures and we are delighted to confirm that we have had no new cases this week. We will of course continue to closely monitor the situation.
As always, please do feel free to come and see me with your ideas, feedback and suggestions.
Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend and Happy Merdeka Day!
