From the Head of Primary 30.09.2023

It has been another week of brilliant learning and a real chance for the whole school community to come together. I really enjoyed dropping in on the parent-led activities for the Mid Autumn Festival this week, it was wonderful to see the children engaging with parents learning something new. This is definitely something we would like to continue to promote for other important celebrations and festivals – I will be liaising with Mr Dobbs in the coming week to discuss how we can build on this great idea.

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend the Learning Conferences this week. It was lovely to see such a great turn out and to have them physically in school again. Teachers and students have provided excellent feedback on the new system of students from Y1-Y6 attending the meeting to share their successes and areas for improvement. If you have any feedback please drop me an email: mberesford@kis.edu.my. If you were unable to attend please do make an appointment to meet your child’s class teacher, you can contact them directly through Class Dojo. These Learning conferences are a great opportunity to continue building strong home/school links and be an active participant in your child’s learning journey.

The Friday celebration assembly really is a highlight of my week as it gives us the opportunity to connect as a school community. We had the pleasure of watching members of the Primary School Choir perform their piece from the re-opening of the ‘North Borneo Railway’, earlier in the week. A huge community congratulations goes to them, but especially to Mrs Bryant and Ms Denyer, who worked tirelessly to prepare the children at quite short notice. As always, we also celebrated birthdays; announced the Stars of the Week from each class and awarded Bronze certificates.

This week Mr Denyer joined us again to talk about KIS Care Week. This is taking place next week and there will be a whole range of activities happening that will allow students the opportunity to think about their own wellbeing and ideas around what they can do to improve this. We will be having the Mindfulness Mile on Thursday morning and so ask that all children come in PE kit for that day.

During this week, Mrs Renshaw, Ms Young, Ms Siti, Mr Denyer and I will be hosting a session for parents:

Wednesday Coffee Morning

As part of our KIS Care Week, we invite you to join us for a lively discussion about your child’s wellbeing and how we can work together to support them. See you in the MPR at 7.45am on Wednesday 4th October.

Looking at the week ahead, we also have our first school trip of the year as Year 5 head to the ‘Mari Mari Cultural Village’. I know from previous experience that this trip is always greatly enjoyed by the children; I look forward to hearing all about it – and sharing with you all a little snippet of their learning in next week’s newsletter.

Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to another brilliant week of learning/ wellbeing to come.

Many thanks,

Mr Mark Beresford
