From the Head of Primary 23.09.2023
Another wonderful and busy week in the Primary School. I have been able to see some brilliant teaching and learning on display; I even managed to catch a performance or 2 from some of our students in music. We also had our open day on Wednesday, where we were able to share how amazing the primary school is and how proud we are of what we do. A huge thank you to parents who came along to support on the day.
One of our PSHE focusses this week was on ‘Physical and Mental Health’. In my newsletter last week we discussed the importance of physical health and eating well. This week in assembly we discussed the concept of Mental Health and who in school is available to help us.
We had two very special guests join us: Ms Siti and Ms Young. They spoke about their roles as the School Counsellor and the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Officer) and how they can help. We also discussed how, as well as the class teachers and the TLAs, students can speak to Ms Gibbons (Head of EYFS/KS1), Mr Hayward (Head of KS2), Ms Suzanie (our school nurse) Melissa and Sharon (in the office) and of course myself! We pride ourselves in the knowledge that the students in our care feel safe, secure and happy during their time with us.

Linking with the theme of safety and people who can help us in school, I hope that you will have all seen the message from Mr Gipson regarding collection at the end of the day. In the Primary School it has always been the policy that parents/ designated adults collect their children – this extends from the end of the day, after ECAs and from Pass Club. We also have a request that during normal collection time at 2pm, you wait at the Year Group specific benches, rather than by the gate. This makes it much easier for staff to ensure that children are going home with the right person.
As usual we celebrated the Stars of the Week, who went above and beyond to receive their certificates. Also, we announced our very first Bronze Award winners of the year. How amazing to have received 40 house points so early on. A huge congratulations to them!

The first Student Council and House Captain meetings were held this week. It was great to see how enthusiastic they are and they all had some great ideas about improving our school. I will keep you posted with any developments!
Don’t forget next week we are holding Primary Learning Conferences which is a fantastic opportunity for parents, students and teachers to discuss the progress that is being made. If you haven’t signed up already, please take a look at the year group page on Class Dojo or contact your child’s class teacher.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Take care.
Mr Mark Beresford
Head of Primary
