From the Head of Primary 07.10.2023

This week we ran the incredibly successful ‘KIS Care Week’ for the second time. Once again it was a brilliant event with children taking part in activities focussed around their mental health. We all really enjoyed the ‘Wake and Shake’ in the morning, getting the blood pumping around our bodies for the rest of the day ahead. Mr Denyer also organised the first ever ‘Mindfulness Mile’ with the whole of the primary school taking part. This was a highlight of the week for me, as the children really enjoyed being outside with their classmates and teachers, walking, talking, running, laughing and definitely sweating. A huge thank you to the staff for taking part and encouraging the children; also to the parents who stayed behind to cheer us all on.

Ms Young, Mr Denyer, Mrs Renshaw and I also hosted one of our Safeguarding/ Wellbeing coffee mornings, which are always really worthwhile. This time we discussed online safety and some very interesting discussions took place, along with some suggestions on how the safeguarding team in school can better support parents. We will look into some of these suggestions in the coming weeks, so watch this space…

We were very lucky to have one of our incredibly talented students, Grace, join us in our assembly this week to talk about her UBUNTU project and how primary students can get involved to support. It is always inspiring to see how students from KIS develop from brave primary speakers to confident secondary students leading change in the 21st century. You will have seen many UBUNTU posters around school and posted on Dojo, if you are interested in knowing more.

Of course we celebrated the Stars of the Week, Trashless Class, Bronze Award Winners and House Challenge Winners. The students are exhibiting incredible drive, passion and enthusiasm in school at the moment and this is reflected in these awards. Congratulations to all of them this week!

Next week, we will celebrate KIS’ official 50th birthday in school from 1pm. There will be much more information to follow from school I am sure, however it would be wonderful to see as many primary parents in attendance as possible. I also look forward to telling you all about our Year 2 and Year 6 trips taking place on Thursday.

Finally, we had our first school trip of the year take place on Wednesday, as Year 5 ventured out to the Mari Mari Cultural Village. I have asked them to share their thoughts on the trip below to finish off this week’s newsletter:
