Scubazoo and DGFC

Last Friday we were very lucky as we welcomed a team of presenters from Scubazoo and Danau Girang Field Center to school to talk about their new project Borneo Jungle Diaries 2. The team included their presenter Alex Alexander who was able to explain to our students what it was like going into the jungle for the first time and how she was able to see so many of Borneo’s indigenous wildlife first hand.

While the team was at school, they showed two of their new episodes to the students and explained to them how they have created Borneo Jungle Diaries to be used in classes to help students around the world develop their knowledge and understanding about the animals of Sabah.

If you would like to find out more about Borneo Jungle Diaries 2 or watch any of the short programs that Scubazoo have made, then please look online for their YouTube channel SZ.tv. Here you will be able to find short informative episodes that have been produced in Sabah about our surrounding area.

Primary Maths Day

On Thursday 14th March the Primary school took part in celebrating world Pi day. As we know, Pi is not only a letter from the Greek alphabet but it is also a mathematical constant that was originally defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to it’s diameter. It now has various definitions and appears in many formulas in all areas of Mathematics and Physics. It is approximately equal to 3.14.

The day started off with an assembly led by Mrs Wallace (Head of Primary Maths) where she shared all the fun activities that the children would be taking part in during the day. These activities covered various different areas of Maths such as measurements for cooking (some yummy Pi shaped cookies were made across Primary), making Pi chains, finding different numbers and shapes around school, exploring the radius and circumference of different shapes, to name but a few.

By the end of the day all the students had had lots of fun, describing it as a “fun and exciting day of Maths”. The day was run as a House competition, so I was very proud to be able to present the winning house the trophy at the end of the day to Sulug.
