From the Head of Primary 09.10.2021
How wonderful it was to welcome some of our F1 and F2 students back into school on Monday. They have had a fantastic week of learning and have soon settled into routines and physical lessons as if they have never been away. I am so very proud of them for taking it all in their stride!
This week, the primary teachers have been very busy reviewing the school curriculum. This is completed on a biennial basis in order to ensure our curriculum is relevant, progressive and provides students with the skills and knowledge they need for the future.
Last week the fun house challenge was ‘Malaysian Pride on Show’. What an amazing array of creativity we saw from our students. From Minecraft Petronas Towers to the Malaysian flag made out of Uno cards as well as some stunning paintings:

This week the ‘Spotlight is on…. Year 3!
During the week the children have been deepening their understanding of the Egyptians across the curriculum!
Through a myth, which tells the story of a character named Seth deceiving his brother Osiris as a result of jealousy, the children applied presentation skills, developed in last week’s performance poetry, to storytelling. Working in groups, they collaborated to become an expert in one part of the myth and then were re-mixed into groups of 6 to each tell a part of the myth, resulting in a whole-group re-telling.
In maths, they used their understanding of different ways to mentally add numbers and applied this to help them add in 3s, 4s and 8s whilst at the same time, learning these times tables and their associated division facts by heart.
As well, they have completed some excellent work in Topic. A highlight was their 3D pyramids; they had to detail what goes inside and include a sphinx outside to stand guard. The children then created a sales pitch, explaining why their pyramid was the best. Some of these were very entertaining – Enjoy the video below!
They also learnt about the mummification process and designed a sarcophagus. Did you know they would use a chisel to break down the nose bone, to enable them to pull out the brains of the dead through the nose? Y3 love such gory details!
Year 3 are proving themselves to be courageous by challenging themselves in their learning; being resilient when the challenges are tough and stepping up to all that being in KS2 brings! They love learning!
Next week is a four-day week as Friday will be a CPD day. This is a day of professional development for staff which is extremely important as it allow teachers time to develop their knowledge and skills and keep up to date with current practices in education. All this ensures that our school continues to provide an excellent education so that students can achieve their full potential.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Take care.
