From the Head of Primary 04.11.2023
What an incredible week we have had in Primary this week. We finalised Enterprise with an incredibly successful sale day and finished off the week with a brilliant Arts Day. It is clear that the children have gained a lot from the events over the last few weeks and I personally believe that they have all grown as ‘Global Citizens’.
The aim of Enterprise is to get the children thinking about all the background processes which go into making something from scratch successful. For many of you, it has probably given the children an insight into the inner workings of what you do on a daily basis. I hope that they have developed a greater appreciation for the world of work you all inhabit. However, not only did our sales end a brilliant 2 weeks of planning, design and production, but it also helped raise a great deal of money for different charities – in total the Primary Enterprise Fortnight has made a profit of 4858.03RM! I think this is an incredible achievement and shows not only the hard work of the students but also the generosity of the KIS community.
Arts Day
On Friday we undertook an Arts Day, which focussed around the idea of technology in art. It was a great event filled with fun and learning. There were some superb Pop Ups from our wonderful parent and IN volunteers, as well as great activities organised by the teachers throughout the day.

I particularly enjoyed the sensory walk behind the stage which Mrs Bryant set up for the children to experience. This event was another example of the imagination and creativity we have within our staff and the enthusiasm to support your children’s enrichment journey.
Last week we missed the celebration assembly as we had an amazing speech from a young entrepreneur within in Sabah, earlier in the week. Therefore, it was wonderful to be back to celebrating the amazing students we have for their achievements with Stars of the Week, Bronze Awards and Trashless Class. There was also the usual huge cheer for our house winners over the last 2 weeks – GAYA!

A huge thank you goes out from me to all parents and carers within the community for the support the new collection policy has had. I hope you agree that it has developed a much calmer and safe atmosphere for the students going home, whilst ensuring that we are confident that every child has gone home with the right adult. Please continue to be consistent with this and help embed this practice with the children.
Having just come off 2 weeks of exciting events within school, it is no time to slow down. Next week we have 2 brilliant events taking place, Pink Ribbon Day and International Day. Within the Primary School all we ask is that on Tuesday children come in wearing something pink. It could be one item of clothing or a full outfit – there will then be a collection box at the front gate for donations to support a local breast cancer NGO who are supporting the event.
International Day on Thursday, is another wonderful event filled with culture and, my favourite, food! You are welcome to come into school for the parade of nations in the morning and then return later in the day for the food stalls and games available. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
Finally, we would like to commend and celebrate the KIS: Kids in Science group whose review article has recently been published online on the Frontiers for Young Minds website. Their review article entitled ‘Miniature Streams Show Scientists How Multiple Stressors Impact Our Rivers’, under the mentorship of Dr Milena, was submitted for publication last academic year and is now available online to help young minds around the world understand the science behind the impact of global warming and pollution on our rivers. Please join me in congratulating our budding scientists who are now in Year 7. You may read their article on this link: https://kids.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/frym.2023.1147094
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mr Mark Beresford
