From the Head of Primary 03.10.2020

The weekly zoom assembly really is a highlight of my week as it gives us the opportunity to connect as a school community. Each week we celebrate birthdays, the House Captains announce the house point totals, I award the Star of the Week certificates and really it’s an opportunity for us to have some fun together. This week, we talked about Pay it Forward which is an opportunity for students to carry out a random act of kindness for a classmate. Before I explain the ‘rules’ I have to admit that this wasn’t my bright idea but that of Mr Burrows in Year 6.

WHAT DOES PAY IT FORWARD MEAN?

Pay it forward is an expression for when the recipient of an act of kindness does something kind for someone else rather than simply accepting or repaying the original good deed.

On Monday, three children from each class will receive a pay it Forward card which I will secretly place in their school bag. Their mission is to carry out a good deed for a classmate and pass the card on until each person in the class has been the recipient of a good deed. In next week’s assembly, we will follow up on the secret mission and find out how if made the children feel.

This week I had the pleasure of awarding the very first Bronze House Point Certificates in assembly. Everyone is working incredibly hard and really contributing to school life and I look forward to awarding the next certificates hopefully very soon.

Ms Siti was our assembly guest speaker this week and she carefully explained her role and how she is available to support the school community. Many children enjoy visiting Ms Siti during their lunch or break time and take part in mindfulness activities while chatting about their day. Ms Siti is available to support our children in many different ways including;

  • Listen to students’ concerns about academic, emotional or social problems
  • Help students process their problems and plan goals and action
  • Mediate conflict
  • Improve parent/teacher relationships
  • Organise peer counseling programs

Ms Siti is also available to support the wider school community. Should you wish to contact her  –  email address is snamim@kis.edu.my

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
