11th Penampang U12 Swimming Championships
There was an electric atmosphere at Penampang Pool over the weekend as 300 swimmers representing swim clubs from around Kota Kinabalu, Labuan and as far as Sandakan took part in the 11th Penampang U12 Swimming Championships.
KIS had 16 students from Year 3 to Year 7 swimming at the event representing the Stingrays. In addition, there were several other KIS students taking part with their respective swim clubs.
These meets are an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable experience racing and push themselves to setting new personal best times. In every race, Stingrays were shaving seconds off their previous personal best results, which given the limited training since coming back after the summer break was a very encouraging sign.
Mr. Bromley had the team well prepped for their races with his warm-ups and valuable coaching tips, as well as making sure that all swimmers had some personal targets to try and achieve during each of their races.
All the KIS swimmers, whether they were swimming as part of the Stingrays, or for other clubs, were fantastically supported by the whole team cheering them on to some excellent finishes and results.
Some students swam in as many as 10 races over the 2 days, testing their endurance and competitive spirit.
In addition to the constant stream of new best times being recorded, we also saw some students achieve great results overall with Natalia, Abraham and Tony all placing in the top 10 for some of their events.
A mention also needs to go to Siwon and Abraham who in representing their respective clubs picked up multiple medals throughout the meet. Well done!
Swimming meets due to there nature can seem like long tiring affairs, but the energy stayed high right throughout the competition thanks to the wonderful KIS parent support. Thank you to all the parents who supported the Stingrays at the event!
Congratulations to the following Stingrays for their amazing efforts over the course of the 2 days: Chen Xi, Maddie, Caleb, Abraham, Kelvin, Nicholas, Ian Zi, Tony, Hope, Brandon, Natalia, Tiggi, Ken Zi, Bella, Maxine and Julia.
