KIS U15 Basketball Tournament
It was a highly successful Saturday of sport at KIS on the Basketball over the weekend. KIS played host to teams from our neighbours SMK St Francis and also Jesselton International School in a U15 Basketball tournament that was used as an opportunity for our U15 FOBISIA teams to get valuable match practice ahead of their tournament in November.
This was the 2nd year we have organised this event and it was certainly a bigger and more well attended event with a large, and vocal, crowd in attendance.
The girls were on 1st in the morning and it was a 3 way round robin competition with the 1st match of the day between KIS and JIS. The match started as a very tight affair as both teams tried to get used to positions. Many a shot was taken but initially, none were finding their way into the basket.
After a very close 1st half, it was KIS that pushed ahead in the 2nd half with points being shared across the team to win 20-3.
KIS then took to the court again for their 2nd match against St Francis. St Francis having not played yet were well rested and very quick around the court, putting a lot of pressure on the KIS players. However, improved defensive work and pressure from KIS kept the St Francis team from making any progress on the scoreboard. Instead growing confidence amongst the KIS team in moving with the ball and attacking the basket paid off with KIS winning their 2nd match of the day 11-1.
A lot of positives to take away from the Girls competition with a great deal of improvement in a short space of time. With a few more weeks still to prepare before the competition
With just 2 schools in attendance for the boys competition it was KIS vs JIS in the last match of the day. The JIS team were clearly keen to compete as many had been at the school since 7am ahead of their match!
Warming-up the boys looked calm and quietly confident and certainly from the first whistle the team who took to the court in the 1st quarter quickly took control of the game. Moving the ball well and applying a lot of pressure on the Jesselton team’s defense KIS took the lead and never let it go.
With 2 ‘squads’ rotating on and off in each quarter, all players had the opportunity to get plenty of time on the court and it was a valuable experience for both players, and coach Mr. Baxter, to trial different plays and systems.
It was a very dominating performance from the boys in the end with the final score 62-12 to KIS.
With a lot of depth in the Boys Basketball team, KIS will certainly be looking to continue on from past successes at FOBISIA events and will be strong contenders for an overall title. Keep focused and working hard boys!
Congratulations to all the students who took part in the event. This is the second year we have hosted this tournament and we hope to be able to continue to build on these relationships with local schools and organise future competitions for different age groups across the school so more KIS students can benefit from the exposure to competitive sport.
A huge thank you to all the students, parents and staff who were courtside to support the players during the competition. Also, a special thanks to Miss Bater, Jimin and Charity Committee who assisted on the day to organise a drinks sale in order to keep the players well hydrated with 100Plus!

Secondary Sports Day
On Friday 1st November, after we return from our mid term break, all students in Secondary will be making their way to Penampang stadium fueled and fired up for the first big House Event of the year. As in recent years, the Secondary Sports Day is sure to be a fiercely contested event.
Our Secondary House Captains have been busily motivating their teams and ensuring that all students are entered into events. Please remember this is a normal school day and attendance for all students in Years 7-13 is compulsory.
To prevent against fatigue and injuries, all students should make sure they eat a high carbohydrate breakfast before the event to help set them up for success in their competitions. In order to make sure that all the students are well looked after on the day, we will have a team of First Aiders from the Red Crescent Society on hand to see to any injuries that may occur. The PTA will also be supporting the event and be onsite to sell a variety of drinks and some limited food items during the day. Please note, students should be bringing their own high energy snacks to eat between events throughout the day and NO school lunches will be delivered on the day.
Our House Mentors Mrs. Colbeck (Gaya), Mr. Baxter (Sapi) and Miss Colley (Sulug) are looking forward to leading their houses and all seem to think that ‘this year’, will be their House’s year for victory! We will have to wait and see!
We hope to see as many parents as possible come down and support the students as they compete to take home the much coveted Sports Day House Trophy.
LET’S GO GAYA, SAPI & SULUG!!!
