KIS’ The Biggest Winner: Weekly Workout

Training is in full swing for students and staff in ‘The Biggest Winner‘ competition. Staff have been seen getting red-faced and sweating as they challenge themselves after school to complete their workouts, personally designed to suit their current fitness levels with the aim of improving their physical fitness. This week, we have a complete workout aimed at improving your cardiovascular endurance.

A comprehensive warm up from Grace (10S) to follow in order to ensure you are at your best for the main activity. Then you have two choices of workouts from Charmaine (10S) and Leo (10K) designed to help you improve your cardiovascular endurance. Choose 1 and repeat twice, maybe do one round of each circuit. Either way, they are sure to get your heart working and improve your body’s ability to supply your working muscles with oxygen to exercise for longer without getting tired. Finally, recover from all the hard work and make sure your muscles aren’t too sore by following Kon Han’s (10S) cool down video which targets muscle groups throughout the whole body in a series of static stretches.

Click the link here to see all the workouts.

Next month, we will be bringing you information on our latest physical activity challenge to bring together parents, staff and the houses in both Primary and Secondary in a fun and competitive event. So, taking part in following these weekly workouts could be a great way to get in shape before the big event is revealed!

AIMS Virtual Olympics

As an international school in Malaysia, we are fortunate to be a member of multiple groups that allow for fantastic collaboration and connectivity for both staff and students alike, even whilst learning remotely. Last year, students at KIS took part in a number of extra-curricular events through FOBISIA, achieving a lot of success in science events, maths challenges, creative writing competitions and more.

A number of schools within the Association of International Malaysian Schools (AIMS) have joined forces and created another online event to allow students to take part in challenging and competitive physical challenges.

The AIMS Sports Virtual Olympics consists of 6 events across 5 age categories and will be open for submission for 5 weeks, closing at 3pm on Friday 15th October. The event is only open to students in AIMS registered schools and in each event/category/gender, 3 students with the highest scoring points will be acknowledged on the leaderboards.

The six events making up the virtual olympics are: a wall throw, skipping challenge, speed bounce, keepy uppy’s, burpees and figure 8 challenge. Information about all the events together with instructional videos on how to perform each event can be found on the AIMS Virtual Olympics website by clicking here. Students can enter just one challenge, or ALL the challenges if they wish. They can also submit repeated entries if they continue to improve their score. All entries require a video submission via the completion of a Google Form that can be found on the website or here

The competition categories that students will be competing in are split by gender and ages and are as follows:

  • Boys and Girls 8 or 9 years
  • Boys and Girls 10 or 11 years
  • Boys and Girls 12 or 13 years
  • Boys and Girls 14 or 15 years
  • Boys and Girls 16, 17 or 18 years.

Students that take part will have the opportunity to compete against other students from all the other schools within AIMS, and see if they can make it onto the overall leaderboard for each event. A huge accomplishment to  strive for!

House points will also be earned for their House group for all entries submitted.

More information will be provided through Google Classrooms and in PE lessons but if you have any questions about the event then please contact me cwatt@kis.edu.my

Come on KIS, I know we have what it takes to go HIGHER, FASTER, STRONGER – TOGETHER and challenge in the AIMS Virtual Olympics 2021!

Good Luck!
