Liga SupaRimau Wrap up – Saturday 11th February

Last weekend our Under 12’s team were finally able to get their season underway with their first match against Malawa FT. Without doubt, there were probably a lot of nerves in the team before taking the pitch, but they were incredibly keen to give it their best shot. The game was played at a fast pace and high level of skill, and the KIS team did a great job of adapting to a pitch much larger than the one they play on during lunchtimes at school.

A free kick awarded outside the box resulted in a superbly struck set piece from team captain Andrew finding the back of the net. This resulted in thunderous applause and jubilant celebrations from players and supporters alike. A great memory from the first match to hold onto as inspiration and encouragement moving forward.

Our two Under 10 teams took on different club sides with the Under 10 A’s facing SK Likas FC while the Under 10 B’s took on TABS SAFA Bandaraya A. It was very encouraging to already see clear improvement in both teams from their first matches, and again, the effort and determination from all the players was commendable, especially on such a hot day against well drilled teams with extensive benches.

As Mr. Bromley importantly highlighted when acknowledging the efforts of the Under 12’s, this is just the start of our journey, and at this stage, our only objective is for the children to learn from each match and continue to develop their football skills and knowledge whilst enjoying the opportunity to play and compete with their friends.

Congratulations to the following players for earning the “Player of the Match Award” for their outstanding performances.

Under 10 A’s – Gabriel

Under 10 B’s – Thomas

Under 12’s – Andrew

I’d like to acknowledge the wonderful support of the parents, grandparents and other extended family members for braving the heat and providing such excellent encouragement for all the players!

All the best to the teams in their next round of fixtures today.

18TH BIG SKY TYRES CUP (14 & UNDER) YOUTH BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2023

Also, last Saturday saw the Girls Basketball team complete their final match of the U14 Basketball Championships. The tough week that had preceded the match meant that the team was missing a couple of players due to injuries, such is a life of sport. Thankfully, for those fit to take the court, having a few days between games meant that they were rested and eager and get back on the court and finish the job.

Playing against Riser, the team started incredibly positively scoring the first few baskets and dominating the play both offensively with superb passing and attacking play while also applying relentless pressure on defense resulting in frequent turnovers. A healthy crowd had made their way down again to support the girls including family, friends and even most of the boys team with Seb sporting a wonderful ‘lucky’ sign.

At the end of the 1st quarter the team were in front and despite having to play the second quarter with only 4 players due to competition rules, there was no change by half time with those 4 girls woking tirelessly and adding to the KIS score. Every successful basket brought a cheer from the crowd, and usually had me jumping out of my seat pumping a fist in celebration.

The team did not waver in their efforts throughout the entire match and maintained their lead. It was incredibly satisfying to see clear improvements in the teams game play and skill level, as well as definite changes in individuals confidence on the court. At the final siren the scoreboard had KIS 20-11 as the victors. A phenomenal finish to the tournament and a promise of hopefully more success to come in the future.

The efforts and performance of the team even caught the eye of the local papers, with KIS players featured in a story on the tournament.

The dedication and commitment of the parents to the tournament was definitely put to the test on Monday night when the team returned to the Luyang Hall one more time for the closing ceremony and presentation that did not begin until 10:15pm AT NIGHT! Was well worth it though as the team were able to enjoy the atmosphere and impressive standard of the boys final before being presented with their 3rd runner up award.

Well done again to all the players involved in both the boys and girls tournament.

In Term 3, our Friday afternoon Basketball ECA will have a focus on preparing prospective players for the U15 Spritzer Cup that will be held in May.

FOBISIA Updates

The time has finally come to wish our 21 excited U13 FOBISIA Vipers all the best as they travel to Thailand tomorrow to take on 5 other schools from around Asia in the 2023 U13 FOBISIA Friendly Games. I know the team are incredibly eager to face whatever challenges may come their way during the competition and have no doubt that they will show great resilience and support for one another along the way.

The squad will be well supported with a large parent body also making the trip to cheer on the teams!
