From the Head of PE and Sport 14.01.2023
Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to all our KIS families at the start of what promises to be another exciting and action-packed term for PE and Sport!
As I write this, I am fortunate to be in KL having attended the FOBISIA Heads of PE Annual General Meeting today where all matters of PE and Sport were discussed including evaluating and reflecting on our current setup for the FOBISIA Games and other sports invitational events as well as how we can continue to promote the sharing of best practice amongst colleagues across the FOBISIA family.
The trip also includes two days of jam-packed CPD on all manner of topics on Physical Education and Sport. As a founding member of FOBISIA, KIS benefit tremendously from being part of an extensive network of schools that presents outstanding opportunities for staff to come together with other professionals in our areas of specialty. These events are invaluable in allowing us to share new and innovative ideas to help continue to grow and shape our learning environment to the benefit of our students.
Taking on the worlds best bowlers
Before Christmas our resident bowler Natalie in 8K had a busy end of the year and season with some high profile tournaments. She possesses a great attitude towards her sport and had set herself high goals. Read below Natalie’s account of her accomplishments.
“Before Christmas, I participated in the 22nd Junior All Star tournament, held at Sunway Kuala Lumpur. As it was an international tournament, I was very fortunate to be able to meet bowlers from all over the world including Korea, Japan, Australia, USA, Singapore, The Philippines, Taipei and Indonesia. I performed well and qualified for the finals after the first two rounds, but I disappointedly failed to achieve my target which was to win the tournament. Regardless, I gained lots of confidence and experience during the game play and it also started a new era in my bowling journey.
After the Junior All Star, I travelled to Penang for the 48th Penang Pesta, another international bowling tournament. During this tournament, I again challenged myself against quality international bowlers and was successful in winning the 2nd runner up for the U12 Girls. A fantastic result.
This was a fruitful month for me and I leant a lot more, especially with the help of a coach from Singapore. I am motivated to keep on learning in order to make myself an even better bowler in the future.” – Natalie
Well done Natalie and we certainly look forward to seeing what comes next for you in your sports journey!
Sabah Golf and Country Club Junior Open
In the closing days of Term 1 over the 15th-16th December, SGCC hosted their Junior Open golf tournament. Two KIS students were successful in finishing in the top spots of their respective age groups with Angelina (13K) finished second in the Girls Category A, while Chaeeun (7K) finished in first place within the Girls Category C competition.
Congratulations to both players on their excellent results!
FOBISIA Updates
Our U13’s got straight into training this week as they have just 4 more weeks of training ahead of their competition in February. They also received their Viper training kits, which included two shirts, a hat and bag which I have no doubt will be worn proudly around school both in the coming weeks and post competition too.
A final reminder to U13 FOBISIA parents that the FINAL Payment of RM1400 was due on Friday 13th January. If you have not already done so, please make sure this is made at the start of next week as we need to arrange the final payment for the games.
