Term 2 Swimming

A reminder that last week saw the conclusion of the swimming lessons for Primary Students in Years 3-6 and also Secondary students in Year 7-11.

All the year groups have enjoyed the units and it has been wonderful to see the progress in all children regardless of their starting ability. Some students have become more confident in the water and travelling on their fronts and backs either with support or without. While some of our older and more able swimmers have been able to refine their stroke technique and look at race starts and turns.

We are looking forward to seeing students in action and showing off their swimming prowess in the pool at Penampang on Friday 27th March at the KS2/Secondary Gala Day. It is sure to be a very exciting event and the first big opportunity for the students of both Primary and Secondary to come together in their House groups and showcasing our new House Mascots: Gaya Pangolins, Sapi Sun Bears and the Sulug Sharks!

More information about the event will be emailed to parents in the next couple of weeks.

Next term, it is our smallest students in school who have the opportunity to enjoy being in the water and practicing a range of water confidence and swimming skills as our EYFS and KS1 students will have their lessons starting from week 1 of Term 3. Again, information about the lessons and what students will need will be sent home to parents shortly.

Students representing at Malaysian Age Group Swimming Championships

Over the last few days, two students from KIS have had the honour of representing Sabah at the Malaysian Age Group Swimming Championships being held at the National Aquatic Center in Kuala Lumpur. Freya (10S) and also Siwon (5K). The event is sure to be fiercely competitive but at the time of writing we already had reports of personal best times being recorded.

We look forward to being able to report more on the event next week as well as other students who are also taking part in major sports events around Malaysia in both Golf and Badminton.
