Eco Car Boot Sale

After almost three years of hiatus, KIS Eco Car Boot Sale came back with a BAM! The school ground was filled with busy vendors who came as early as 7.00 am, setting up their booths and getting ready for the anticipated hours for when the gate is open to welcome potential buyers at 9 am.

The primary student council made a fantabulous sale from their bric-a-brac, thanking Ms Hitchen for leading our primary students, while the secondary student council’s bake sale was so popular, they ran out by the first hour; we thank Mr & Mrs Beresford for their dedication and long hours on preparing those scrumptious cakes (p.s. That lemon cake was my favourite!!!) We also thanked Nicole, Milena, the PTA members, and Mr Gross for brightening the day with ice cream and lollies.

Walking around the school, you could see varieties of second hand or handmade clothes, toys and plushies, electrical appliances, greenery plant arrangements and even tupperwares that promote the theme of our Eco Boot Sale. We have also managed to collect RM 1700 from all our vendors, and this will help support our students’ leadership committees.

Look out for the next Eco Car Boot Sale next year, and remember to reuse, recycle and, repurpose, be kind to our Earth. Finally, thank you to everyone who came to support this event.

Teachers Appreciation Week

This year, we celebrate our dear teachers, who have worked so hard, dedicating their passion and their love for teaching to all the students in KIS. Indeed, we have caught warm smiles and giggles and a lot of “Awwws” while delivering these cards and flowers. We thank our parents for their continuous support, and Mrs Fletcher, who has organised the ‘Teachers Card’ competition for all of our primary students. Your generosity has greatly helped us with our charity drive this year for the Sabah Society for The Deaf, Kota Kinabalu, as we have collected RM1586 . Terima Kasih!

Primary Charity Books & Toys Drive

In Term 2, during Book Week, our primary charity committee has organised the ‘Book & Toy Drive’ to support our partnership with Book Reach. We thanked our KIS community in support of this drive. I would also extend my gratitude to our primary students, who have worked hard in helping to organise and pack those books and toys during our weekly meeting.

Book Reach began in 2013 by taking discarded books to needy schools that were crying out for libraries in the Makwanpur district of Nepal. They have now made 19 libraries there. In 2018, they expanded their work into Sabah schools, SK Moyog and SK Kipovo, Penampang, and SMK Sansau, Kinabatangan.

Uncle Rasyid, the Book Reach representative, came and collected all of the books and toy donations last Wednesday morning. And all of your books and toys have been donated to SK Moyog, as Cikgu Clement Liew collected the donation at IEC Kota Kinabalu, of which Ms Jasmine Leong is now in charge of the organisation.

We hope to see more of these donations in the next drive in the near future, to extend our support to our local communities’ as schools expand their school libraries and grow their love of reading. As Dr Seuss said, ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Summer Fair 2022

Summer Fair is coming soon on Saturday, 25th June 2022, from 9 am – 1 pm. There will be lots of activities for our students to participate in, such as face painting, karaoke, indoor and outdoor games, and our favourite event of the day, ‘Sponge the Teachers’, by the Secondary Student Council.

As we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary next year, this year’s Summer Fair will be funding for the celebration. Tickets for the games only will be available to purchase after the half-term break, at the front office, or from Ms Ann. It will cost RM 10 per ticket of ten stamps.

We are also looking for interested vendors to participate in this event; booths are limited, so if you are interested, please get in touch with Ms Ann at ann@kis.edu.my for more information. (Special rate for our KIS community applied)
