Our second beach clean up of the year was held on Saturday 8th February. It was a cloudy day with some very slight drizzle, ideal conditions to go looking for plastic. We had a good turnout given the circumstances and managed to collect a total of 100.5kg. Sapi found the most this time with 58.5kg followed by Gaya 22kg and Sulug 21kg.
Mrs Davis and Dr Milena of the KIS Eco Committee collected cigarette butts. Did you know most of these contain plastic (90%), 4.5 trillion are thrown away every year and each one takes decades to decompose? On Saturday, 0.535 kg were collected just from around Hut 5 where we were based.
Do join us for the Term 3 clean up!
