From the Head of PE and Sport 26.08.2023
It has been fantastic to see students settle into their learning in PE over the past week. Primary students are currently focusing on their FUN-damental movement skills. Having this solid grounding on understanding how to move is essential for increasing confidence and enjoying greater success in all manor of movement activities and sports and is a key focus for PE at KIS.
In Secondary, students are hard at work brushing up on their athletic skills in preparation for our Secondary Sports Day that will take place later in the Term. Alongside athletics our KS3 students are examining how understanding more about their own fitness and how to target training specific components of fitness can aid their athletic performance.
Year 10 are gaining some valuable life skills by undertaking an introductory First Aid course led by Mr. Bromley. It’s our hope that if they can demonstrate the key skills and knowledge at the end of the course that they could even receive a basic First Aid qualification, something that every member of our school community should aim to attain.
A reminder that a hat is a mandatory piece of the PE uniform which all students should have with them every day, not just on PE days, as students are not permitted to play outside without a hat. Please make sure that your child’s name is clearly visible somewhere on the hat so that it can always be returned should it go missing.
Successful Girls Football World Cup Sunday Session
Those who made it down to school last Sunday morning for our football taster sessions had a fantastic time practicing some of the basics with their friends. Both sessions finished with a prelude to the Women’s Final with Spain vs England and unlike the match held that evening, there was a win to the England Lionesses in the first match of the day followed with what may have been a premonition of what was to come with a 1-0 win to Spain in the second match with the Y6-8 girls. Sorry Lioness’ fans!

There is clearly a lot of interest, and also some untapped talent in football amongst the girls, so I will be doing my best to support this and make sure there are opportunities for girls to get involved in football which will include sessions as part of the ECA programme.
Our goal will be to see if we can get a KIS Vipers team taking part in Liga SupaRimau when it becomes available!
KIS – Keeping it Sweaty!

Liga SupaRimau Season C
Speaking of Liga SupaRimau, registrations for Season C have now closed and I have been busy this week making the final arrangements for our last season of the calendar year. Don’t panic, if you were not able to join this season there will be more opportunities to come in 2024!
Information about Season C, and particularly important information about training updates, were emailed to parents yesterday. The letter also details the participation costs but we ask that parents DO NOT pay any money at this stage. We will write to you again soon when you can start making payments.
If you think you registered your child for Season C but did not receive the letter then please email me and I will forward on information.
FOBISIA News

FOBISIA Golf Information Session – CANCELLED
Apologies, but I received notice from Fraser Pook that he is no longer able to attend the previously advertised FOBISIA Golf Information session that was scheduled for this coming Wednesday. If you have a child who plays competitive Golf and would like to know more about this event then please contact me by email cwatt@kis.edu.my with any questions or to arrange a time to meet. If there is enough interest then we will work to try and support students attending the event.
