From the Head of PE and Sport 02.09.2023

As mentioned last week our students in Secondary School are currently taking part in a unit of athletics and fitness with a strong focus on personal challenge, that is working hard to achieve their best results and performances.

A car will not run if we don’t put fuel in it and that is the same for our bodies. It goes without saying that we cannot expect to perform at our best if we are not adequately prepared and this includes making sure that we are have taken in enough ‘fuel’ to function both safely and effectively.

It is the nature of Athletics events that you need to work at maximum efforts for short or sometimes longer and more sustained periods of time. It is during these moments that as PE teachers we can often see alarming signs and symptoms in students who have not come to lessons in the right physical condition and in doing so put themselves at risk unnecessarily.

I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of students eating regular and nutritious meals to ensure that they can perform at their best, not just in PE and other physical activities but in the classroom as well. A tired body and brain will not learn as effectively as one that has been properly fueled and ready to have those neurons fire!

So please remember to ensure your children are coming to school having eaten something in the morning each day so they can fully capitalise on all the wonderful opportunities that being a part of KIS has to offer.

SAGA Cup U20’s – Stepping onto the court in a new challenge

At still only 14 years of age Dasha (10K) was presented with a marvelous opportunity to continue challenging herself as a member of the Tuaran U20’s Basketball team competing in the  SAGA Cup.

During the week her team played two matches against Penampang and Putatan. Whilst her side lost the first game to Penampang they bounced back to secure a convincing win against Putatan to qualify for the semi-finals that will take place later this year in December. Great work Dasha, and best of luck in the finals when they roll around.

Liga SupaRimau Season C

Despite the public holiday, it was a great turnout from our Vipers at their first Liga SupaRimau Season C training session on Thursday evening. In order to avoid lost training time due to poor weather and also free up facilities at school to support other activities, we are trialling holding the training at Suria Indoor Soccer Center located at Jesselton Point. This move was in response to a lot of feedback we have had from parents about wanting more regular training for the players to  support their development and ultimately improve their competitiveness in the league. We are confident that by utilising this new facility we continue to see even more progress in our teams’ performances during Season C that will kick off on Saturday 9th September.

As I have mentioned many times, our involvement in Liga SupaRimau is largely dependent on the phenomenal efforts of our volunteer coaches. Coaching is not a simple task, and coaching youth sports especially requires a lot of patience, care and energy. We have been so fortunate to have so many parents generously offer their time and experience to support our players and teams. Many thanks to our coaching staff for taking on these roles in Season C 2023:

  • Under 8’s = Jimmy Lam and Phil Dobbs
  • Under 10’s = Roberto Leone and Andy Clifford
  • Under 12’s = Stuart Bromley, Benoit Goossens and Anthony Shim

Payments can now be made for Season C either by cash to the school office or by bank transfer. If you do carry out a bank transfer then please use the reference “LSR Season C *childs name*” so that we can easily identify your payment and record it.

Amounts for each team are:

  • Under 8’s = RM180
  • Under 10’s = RM180
  • Under 12’s = RM160

Watch this space for weekly match reports and updates from our Liga SupaRimau teams.
