Dear KIS Community,

A lovely and warm welcome to our new KIS families and welcome back to our returning families. It has been truly wonderful to be able to stand at the gate and see our children come into school and continue their learning face to face. Many of us have been able to travel this past summer and catch up with friends and family overseas and now to come back refreshed and see friends and loved ones again here in Sabah. We also welcome our new staff and see how well they are settling in to life at school and for some, their new lives here in Sabah too.

I hope you have had a chance to visit school and see many of the new developments that have taken place. The new coffee shop will be opening for staff and parents soon, with thanks to Colour Meals our school canteen. The basketball court is very much useable and will soon be completed with a top coat of paint.

Last year our older students sat their final examinations for IGCSE and A level and we could not be more proud of their achievements and results. Thank you to all of the staff, past and present, who have supported our students on their educational journey. The results are a credit to the students themselves and reflect their hard work over a difficult past two years of study.

As borders have opened up and travel is returning to normal it is understandable that we are more likely to become ill. This is a normal part of our lives and we now need to learn to live with Covid being around us. If you or your child display symptoms please take a test and if it is positive you or your child should self-isolate for seven days. You do not need a further test and can return to school after the seven days. If you are a close contact you are still able to come to school as long as you have tested negative and do not have any symptoms. Masks are still required indoors.

I usually have staffing news for others, however, after nearly five years at KIS, my family and I have decided it is time to move on to pastures new. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the KIS community and it will be difficult to move on at the end of this academic year. In the coming months, the Board and I will be actively recruiting for the next Principal and will keep you updated and involved in the process.

Finally, thank you to all the parents, staff and students who took part in the 2022 Community Survey in the last term. A report of the survey will be finalised shortly and made available to all.

Have a lovely weekend,

Ian Gross
