From the Head of PE and Sport 28.05.2022
Athlete of the Year 2022
Walking into the Hall you will have probably noticed the lovely plaques that are on display with the names inscribed for past winners of Sportsman and Sportswoman and Junior Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year. Disappointingly, we were not in a position to be able to award these last year due to the lack of sporting events and competitions taking place.
With sports up and running again and more time spent in school this academic year with PE and ECAs back in full swing, we are very excited that we will once again be able to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of students in sport at KIS. We will bestow four new recipients with the honour of being named the “Athletes of the Year” in both Primary and Secondary.
Students in Year 5 and Year 6 as well as all Secondary students were given the opportunity to nominate someone that they felt demonstrated the KIS “SPORT” qualities, outlined below.
S – Success
Have achieved excellence within their chosen sport speciality/specialties, whether through internal school sports competitions, local/district competitions or state and national events.
P – Participation
Shown a commitment to contributing to wider school sport whether in PE lessons, school sports events or ECA’s.
O – Outlook
Demonstrated a positive attitude, both on and off the sports field/court, including qualities such integrity, determination, work ethic and resilience.
R – Respect
Portrayed exemplary sportsmanship qualities towards their peers, opponents, coaching/teaching staff and officials.
T – Team
Been a positive role model for others and taken on leadership roles within school showing a willingness to assist others whether in PE curriculum lessons, school sports activities or within ECA’s.
A number of students have received nominations from their peers and now the PE Department will make a final decision as to who will be named as 2022 Athletes of the Year!
