Word of the Week is back!

As some of you may remember, this was a competition we held last year with the aim of encouraging our students to tackle more adventurous texts and to expand their vocabulary. We in the English department have decided it’s time to reinitiate the competition and, judging by this week’s entries, our students have been as industrious as ever when it comes to serving up delectable lexical treats for us all to enjoy.

Competitions within each tutor group were held during yesterday’s registration period and tutors have now passed on the winning word for each class. I was elated by the multifarious locutions that found their way to my inbox. However, sadly, there can only be one winner which this week was ‘epexegesis – meaning the addition of words to provide extra clarity within a sentence – which was put forward by Celine Hiew from 8K.

Congratulations to Celine for earning five house points for Gaya and I look forward to reading more equally exceptional word choices next week!
