Staffing 2019-20

Throughout May we have been introducing our new staff and below you can see who some of them are and read a little introduction about them. Please note for Primary teachers, class teachers have not been allocated yet for next year.

Stuart Bromley (PE / Swimming)

I am presently the Head of Whole School Aquatics & Head Coach of KLASS Torpedoes at the Alice Smith School in KL where I work with students from FS1-Y13, teaching Physical Education & Swimming. I have across the PE spectrum of qualifications and more recently been extensively involved in Life Guard training through the delivery of the RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. Previously I have also worked as Head of Boys PE at Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School, specialist Sports College, whole school CCA co-ordinator at Garden International School KL, PE Teacher in East London as well as a 2 year stint in business as an educational recruitment consultant in Cardiff. As a younger man I won a bronze medal at British Age Groups for Judo and played National League Hockey although nowadays my time is taken up with my family who, mostly, will be travelling to KK with me. They are my wife, Tamara, Amber (12), Caelan (5), Xavier (4) & Jose (2) whilst my eldest son, Bayden, is at university in the UK and second son, Raoul will be attending boarding school as he pursues his dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer.

Mr Bromley will be taking over the great work already being done by Ms Beltran as she heads off to China in August.

Curtis Baxter (Chemistry & Science)

I am currently teaching in Russia. My interests revolve around sport and fitness, in particular, playing and watching basketball. I also play football and support my home town football team Wigan Athletic. When I am not engaged in sport, you can find me watching the latest film, television or Netflix series. Whilst in Kota Kinabalu I aim to learn to dive and climb Mount Kinabalu. I look forward to the warm climate, the temperature can get as low as -30oC in Moscow during winter. I am interested in tasting the food available and see how the food in Malaysia is influenced by neighbouring countries. I am eager to explore the surrounding countries and areas and experience all Malaysia has to offer.

Mr Baxter will be joining the science department in Secondary.

Brian Reid (English)

I come from Scotland. I have been working in SE Asia for a number of years teaching English. For the last two years I have been in Kuala Lumpur and have found the people to be very friendly and kind. I will be moving to KIS by myself. I enjoy being outdoors, especially when doing running. I am looking forward to the variety of attractions that KK offers.  Hopefully, I will be able to buy a bike and do some exploring this way. Likewise, it will be a thrill to discover places to hike and run that are off the beaten track. And of course being in close proximity to the sea is something to look forward to very much.

Mr Reid will be following on from Mr Withers in the English department as he will be moving back to the UK in August.

Jo Mitchell (EYFS)

I’m really looking forward to joining KIS in August as a Foundation Stage teacher.  I have an absolute passion for teaching the Foundation Stage and have done so throughout my teaching career of 20 plus years, finding it extremely rewarding and I look forward to the amazing discoveries children make on a daily basis.  For the past four years I have been teaching in Shanghai and prior to that I taught at an international school in the Middle East. Originally from New Zealand I love being amongst nature and close to the beach, water sports and outdoor activities being amongst my favourites.  I also have a love of travel and look forward to traveling to new and exciting places, immersing myself in the culture of the country I am visiting. I can’t wait to get back near water again and meeting all the wonderful families at KIS.  See you all in August.

Ms Mitchell will become one of the new Primary staff members in Early Years as we say goodbye to Ms Marriott who will be moving to Hong Kong.
